Failed to read from sector xxx of HD 1 (SanDisk SSD) during backup

Thread needs solution

I have a SanDisk 960 GB SSD that has been good to me for several years.   SanDisk Dashboard shows that it is in good shape with no file errors.   It has been successfully backed up before by True Image 2015.   Last two backups I have gotten the subject error.   I have run chkdsk and it shows no file errors.  SMART Test is good.  So no errors found to fix.   Upgraded to TI 2018 to hope the later better software would work.

No success.  Same error.

Any thoughts?

William, if you are seeing 'failed to read from sector xxx of HD 1'  then this is normally an indication that there is a genuine disk problem here.

How many partitions exist on your SSD drive and is this disk 0 in your computer?  Acronis uses a different numbering system than Windows, so disk 1 for Acronis is disk 0 for Windows.

It is possible that the bad sector is actually on a hidden/system partition that is being included in your backup image, therefore not a partition that you can check normally using CHKDSK.

You should create the ATIH 2018 Rescue Media using the Windows RE option for the media creation, then boot from this media which should assign drive letters to all your partitions on the SSD.  From the Command prompt window of the rescue media, try running CHKDSK /R against the other partition(s).
