failed to write data to disk (Acronis True Image 2018)

Thread needs solution

I installed a Acronis True imager 2018 on my Windows 7 PC. and created a Bootable DVD by using a Acronis True image 2018

Tools\ Rescue Media Builder\ Advanced\ Linux-based media\ DVD.rw drive.

made a PC image backup on a USB harddrive.

When using this DVD to restore the system then have got a issue below :

Failed to Write to sector '0' of hard disk '2'

Direct R/W operation has failed . (0x590001)

operation not permitted (oxFFF1)

if I use a 2017Bootable DVD to restore the system. it works ok.

Ping Wang, welcome to these User Forums.

There can be different versions of the Linux kernel used between different versions of ATI for the bootable Rescue Media.

With ATI 2018, the default Rescue media will try to create Windows PE Rescue Media as described in KB 60091: Acronis True Image 2018: how Simple bootable media creation mode works

There have been a number of reports of the same error message:

Clearing disk
Failed to write data to the disk.
Failed to write to sector '0' of hard disk '2'.
Direct R/W operation has failed. (0x590001)
Operation not permitted (0xFFF1)

The responses to these reports have been to suggest the following:

Run a CHKDSK /R for the problem hard disk.

Note: Acronis numbers disks starting from 1 which is different from Windows which numbers disks starting from 0.

Try using the Windows PE version of the Rescue Media.

Clean the disk drive before trying the restore by using the options in Windows Disk Management to remove any partitions and volume on the drive, or else by using the following commands as Administrator.

diskpart
list disk   (to identify the target drive, i.e. 1)
select disk 1
clean

Note: Please ensure you select the correct disk drive if using the above as all data will be cleaned from the drive using these commands.

Hi  Steve

Thanks for your reply

I tried the Windows PE version of the Rescue Media. The new issue is that Acronis 2018 cannot see an external USB drive/disk.

We had a same problem with ATI 2018. As we created an USB Acronis bootable rescue media from AIT2016 and boot from it, it could restore an image without any issue. So I think it is a problem of ATI2018
