Failed to write data to the disk - ATI 2019

Thread solved

Hello,

Recently I encountered the following error:

Failed to write to sector "1" on hard disk "2"
Direct R7W operation has failed (0x590001)
Operation not permitted (0xFFF1)

This occurred when I was trying to restore a backup from an external hard drive, when the computer had already restarted and was in the recovery boot menu. I am using ATI 2019.

I have tried the following CHKDSK /R /F but to no avail.

The computer is running windows 10 and it has 2 disks running raid.

Attached is also the system report i took when the error appeared.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Bruno, welcome to these public User Forums.

My first comment is to say that you are running an old build version of ATI 2019 (#14690) - you should download and install the final build #18100 from your Acronis Account page.

Next, from your description above you are attempting this recovery from within Windows 10 given you say "when the computer had already restarted and was in the recovery boot menu" but don't mention booting from any separate rescue media.

The issue with doing a recovery from within Windows 10 is that it will launch into a temporary Linux based recovery environment which has no support for your RAID drives, so would be attempting to restore only to one disk of the RAID set.

What you need to do here is to create the Acronis 'Simple' version of bootable rescue media which is created from the Windows Recovery environment (WinRE / WinPE) which does have support for RAID.

See KB 61632: Acronis True Image 2019: how to create bootable media
Also KB 61621: Acronis True Image 2019: How to restore your computer with WinPE-based or WinRE-based media

Note: you should upgrade ATI 2019 to build #18100 first before creating the new rescue media.

Hello Steve,

Thank you so much for the help and time to explain the cause an solution to the problem.

I have tried the solutions you presented and it worked. I have run a bootable media with the ATI simple version, and ran the recover image from another external hard drive.

Best Regards,
Bruno

Bruno, thanks for the update - always glad to hear of good news with your successful recovery.
