How can I delete old differential versions?
Hello everybody,
lately I've used a differential backup scheme that creates only differential versions after the initial full version. I don't need the old differential versions anymore, I just want to keep the last one: is there a way to delete them?

In reply to Leo, there is no automatic… by truwrikodrorow…

Thanks for the answer, Steve. Just one thing: there was no "ignore" option in the popups, there was "consider deleted" or something like that. Thanks again!

Leo, glad you were able to do what you wanted and found the correct answer (been a little while since I have done the same), thanks for the feedback.

I have another problem now... ATI successfuly validated the D: disk backup, but when I try to validate the C: disk backup, this message appears:
The only thing I did differently is that for the D: backup I first added the backup to acronis, then deleted the differential versions and then validated the backup, but for the C: backup I first deleted the unwanted differential versions and then I added the backup to acronis and tried to validate it

Leo, you should be able to take the Cancel option on the error message though this may be repeated for each deleted file during the validation process.

If i press cancel, the validation procedure simply stops :\

Leo, is it possible for you to post the log file for the validation task? Download the MVP Log Viewer tool from the Community Tools link in my signature which will make accessing the logs easier.

Acronis is searching for "F:\C_full_b1_s1_v12.tib" but the filename of the backup is "F:\C_full_b1_s1_v1". And if I choose the "browse..." option and select "C_full_b1_s1_v1", the same "cannot find version 2" message reappears. Should I try to rename "C_full_b1_s1_v1" to "C_full_b1_s1_v12.tib"?

Leo, the messages that stand out to me are:
20/06/2018 20:19:54: 00 42356 I000B0402: Validate Backup Archive Location: F:\C_diff_b1_s36_v1.tib
20/06/2018 20:21:15: 00 42356 I01E50023: Error 0x1e50023: The specified file does not exist: F:\C_full_b1_s1_v12.tib.
The file being validated is F:\C_diff_b1_s36_v1.tib and from the next error message, this file is dependent on file F:\C_full_b1_s1_v12.tib
This would suggest that the initial differential file has been orphaned and no longer has the initial full backup that it was based on? Renaming other .tib files would not resolve this error.

This seems like a thread to post my question. You refer to validating backup files using the system that created them. That isn't practical because the system they were created on isn't working and the disks they are on is part of a Storage Pool that ATI doesn't recognize. So I copied the full and most recent differential but, of course, the data base doesn't match. If I try the restore I get eight requests for each missing backup and cannot get the backup to restore under windows or Windows PE recover, both crash. Is there a way I can validate the two files and do a recovery without all the time and interaction?
This seems like basic functionality.
Thanks

Richard, sorry but too little information to best advise you so far.
What are the actual file names for the files you are trying to validate?
What are the messages written in the log file for the validation task? Use the MVP Log Viewer tool (link in my signature).
What tasks exist on the system where the validation is being performed (in the ATI GUI)?
What type of backup image file is this, i.e. a Disk & Partitions or a Files & Folders backup.
