how to uninstall an old (2009) acronis
Hi,
I recently purchased ATI 2018. I have 2009 on my Windows 7 system. ATI 2018 will not install unless I uninstall the 2009. I have tried this before without success.
I have tried to uninstall the 2009 by using the Remove option from the control panel. When I reboot I get my MBR corrupted. When I reboot I have a C: with System Reserved on it, and F: with all my files. I do not have a Secure Zone setup nor do I have the F11 Startup setup.
Rebuild the MBR with Windows repair does not work. Doing this: Bootrec.exe /FixMbr, Bootrec.exe /FixBoot and Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd does not work.
I end up having to restore my system from a full backup and I am back where I started.
Is there a utility at this time that can deal with this problem? I would like to move to 2018.
Thank you,
Lynden

Ian,
No, I purchased ATI 2009 in 2010 and installed it at that time on Windows 7. All updates have been maintained to the present day. ATI 2009 has always worked very welll for me and I have always had it set up with Grover's scripts so that I have generations of backups. Very nice.
Currently I have ATI2009 on a 64 bit machine and it has worked fine for years now. I just can't install 2018. It would seem that there would be someone at Acronis who has dealt with this before.
I may just take a loss on ATI 2018 and keep 2009. 2009 still works, I just would like to keep more current. But if I can't install it....... then 2009 stays on the machine.

Lynden, doing a normal uninstall of ATI 2009 should not result in your MBR being corrupted, especially if you have never activated the ASRM that modified the MBR to give the F11 key to invoke this utility before starting Windows.
The ATI 2009 User Guide only says that Windows XP and Vista had been officially tested with this product version, so it does predate Windows 7, but I wouldn't have thought that would cause this problem when uninstalling it.
If you have a Windows 7 Install or Repair disc, then it might be worth trying the Bootrec.exe /FixMbr, Bootrec.exe /FixBoot and Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd commands before trying a further uninstall, to ensure that these boot components are good, then restart the computer to confirm this. If you don't have the install or repair disc, then download a copy using the tool provided at webpage: Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool
If all is OK after trying the above and restarting, then try the normal uninstall of ATI 2009 again and check if all is still ok afterwards.
See forum topic: [How to] uninstall a previous installation which has a lot more information in this subject area.

In reply to Lynden, doing a normal… by truwrikodrorow…

Steve,
Thanks for your comments. I did all those things before without luck. However, I went to the link you provided "uninstall a previous installation" and went thru those steps. That worked!! I think it had something to do with the scheduler....? There were no items to remove in the registry.
Anyway, worked great. Much appreciate your help.
