I can't save my backup configuration

Thread needs solution

I just bought and installed ATI 2018. I can't save my backup configuration. I realize that I have to perform or schedule a backup to save a configuration, but it doesn't work. The first time, I set up the configuration and did a backup. I noticed that during the backup process the "middle panel" (that normally has This Computer at the top) was completely blank. But the backup process, including a verify operation, completed successfully. I restarted ATI and now "This computer" is back in the middle panel, but my settings are lost - everything's back to default (even though I had selected Save as Default previously when I finished configuring) and even source and destination hasn't been remembered. I tried importing settings from file (I also saved them previously) and I still get the defaults, still have to select source and destination.

Radiophile, when you installed ATI 2018, did you do so using an Administrator level user account - this is needed in order to set the correct permissions / authorities.

Please see the ATI 2018 User Guide:Step 1. Backing up your computer which describes the steps needed to create a backup task in the ATI GUI based on either selecting 'Entire PC' or else selecting at a Disk & Partitions source level.

Thanks Steve. I used my regular account, which is administrator level. If you meant did I specifically run the downloaded install applet 'as administrator,' I did not.

My brief glance at the page in the ATI user guide was not useful. I'm very familiar with backup concepts in general and Acronis in particular, having used it since the mid-2000s. I had been using Acronis 2010 until recently, when I had a fling with Acronis WD Edition (based on ATI 2016).This new UI is somewhat bizarre to me; I was worried I was just missing something.

So, more information: The WD Edition didn't have this problem on this PC. And ATI 2018 on another PC (I bought 3 licenses and have installed it on 2 PCs so far) also doesn't have this problem.

I think I'm going to try a repair install.

Quick question: did you have either the ATI 2010 or the WD 2016 version installed on this PC prior to installing ATI 2018, or was this a clean install of 2018 with no previous Acronis products installed?

If you did have the earlier version(s) installed, then I would recommend doing a clean install by first doing a normal uninstall (via the Control Panel) then run the Acronis Cleanup Tool as Administrator followed by a restart.  Note: the link in my signature to the Cleanup Tool takes you to a KB document advising how to use the tool.  I have not needed to mess with the Windows Registry as suggested by the document, but please take extra care if doing so!

I did have WD Edition installed before installing 2018. I didn't need to uninstall it on the other PC, on which 2018 works fine as I said. But, I understand the two PCs could be different in some respect.

The repair install of 2018 didn't help.

I will uninstall 2018, and then use the cleanup tool. Thanks for the link.

I uninstalled, used cleanup tool (I didn't need to make any registry changes either, because the strings it was looking for weren't present), and reinstalled. Problem fixed.

Steve, thanks.

Glad to hear the update, thank you for giving the feedback.
