MVP Tool - CUSTOM ATI WINPE BUILDER User Assistance

Thread needs solution

Are there instructions, directions or a step-by-step procedure to walk users through configuration of the recovery media (flash drive) in Acronis TI 2018 that supports SSD media? As noted by others, neither Acronis True Image 2017 or 2018 recognizes or identifies my Dell XPS 15 with a Samsung SSD.

I see that there may be fixes for this issue, but the process to create a recovery boot drive that will recognize SSD media is very complex. I am frustrated that Acronis does not already incorporate these fixes in a commercial product that is otherwise very well featured.

Thanks to all who comment or contribute.

Curtis, welcome to these User Forums.

Please see KB 60091: Acronis True Image 2018: how Simple bootable media creation mode works

The ATI 2018 Simple Rescue Media should support the majority of SSD drives given that it takes device support from your Windows Recovery Environment in order to create the Windows PE version of the Rescue Media.

If the standard rescue media is not detecting your Samsung SSD then there are steps that would be needed to add extra device drivers for the SSD to the media.  See the forum sticky post: [How to] Advanced WinPE/RE Driver Injection in Acronis Media Builder for more information.

The MVP Custom ATIPE Builder tool can also be used and is essentially self-guiding - the latest version of the tool can also use the Windows Recovery Enviroment as the source for building the media, or else you can download and install the latest Windows 10 ADK and use that with the tool.
Note: If installing the ADK then only the top 3 options on the installer panel need to be selected.

The most likely reason why the recovery media doesn't see you Samsung SSD is that the SATA mode in the BIOS has been set to RAID. OEM's are doing this even when there is only one drive in the computer. It is supposed to give enhanced performance. That means the RAID driver needs to added to the WinPE build. If your computer is using Intel IRST RAID, the driver to support this has been made available in the MVP Tool. All you would need to do is say yes to the question about adding Custom Drivers during the build.
