New User Question -- Backup at Startup or Shutdown

Thread needs solution

I had installed the 30 day trial but had to reinstall Windows 10 in place so only got a couple of days into it when Acronis said the trial period is over. My question is about backup at Startup and Shutdown.

In TI2018 is it possible to only back up at shutdown? By the wording in the schedule, it seemed to mean that it would back up at startup AND shutdown -- even if you scheduled it only once a day. For instance, I want to leave work and shutdown the PC and have Acronis 2018 run a backup.

Then, the next day when I come into work, I DON'T want another backup to engage when I start the computer. I want Acronis to only backup when I once again leave work at the end of the day and shut down the computer. Make sense?

The wording seemed odd to me, if I remember correctly. Before I buy the upgrade, I'd like to know whether what I want is possible: Backup only at computer shutdown (and not at restart as well).

One way to accomplish this is to schedule your backup and use the "Shutdown when backup is complete" option for that particular task. That was ATI will start the backup on schedule as you're leaving in the morning and shut down the computer for you when done. You can even have it wake the computer up to do the backup, so if you leave early and the computer goes to sleep, it will wake up, run the task, and then shut down.

Thanks for you help. I've just purchased the upgrade, but...

How does one go about backing up only at Shutdown? I don't see a "Shutdown when backup is complete" option. The only option I have in Disc Backup Options/Schedule/Upon Event is: "System shutdown or restart". I don't see anywhere else to change which one it does (shutdown or restart).

Thanks

Mahlon, these options are split between the Schedule page for your task, i.e. if you select Upon event on the schedule page, then you can select further options.

On the Advanced page for your task, there is also a Computer shutdown section that you can expand where you can select to shut down the computer after the backup is complete.

Thanks. I see the "Computer Shutdown" under the Advanced Tab now. So that makes sense and is what I was looking for.

I guess the wording, though, of "System shutdown or restart" in the Schedule Tab is still throwing me. It makes it seem as though choosing that option will also begin a backup at "restart" as I can't find an option to choose between "shutdown" or "restart". Therefore having two backups a day.

Thanks for the help. I'll experiment with it.
