Request to implement backup of symbolic links or junctions with Acronis True Image 2018

Thread needs solution

Hello,
I tried to backup folders that are symbolic links or junctions, but it does not work (Windows 10, x64).
Acronis backs up, sends the regular backup message, but the file is only 2KB.
I made a request for online support and confirmed that True Image does not back up symbolic links or junctions.
I have also asked to be able to implement this function.
Is there anyone else interested in this option?
If yes, I ask you to join me in the request to the Development Team.
Thank you
Andrea C.

I use these links to move things from my system drive to my data drive (e.g. Music, Videos, Pictures, Documents, etc.) as well as some other things not Associated with the User. I don't want them backed up when I back up my system drive.

ATI will back this up based on the destination of the link so they are always included. You could just add them to your backup task.

I think it works right as it is.

I, like Bruno, use symbolic links for certain data which I do not want included in an OS system backup.  I prefer that a backup of such data be done independently of the OS drive.  This approach provides finite control over such data and greatly enhances backup performance.  I agree with Bruno, it is right like it is.

I have the same problem with my Kubuntu 16.04 clones (using Acronis True Image 2018).

Linux uses Symbolic Links a lot int he operating system and I use as a user also (within the same disk & partition). If such symbolic links are not retained in the cloned image, then the image is kind of useless and "corrupted".  See this for example https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/373390/wifi-no-longer-works-af…

Can they at least get preserved with "By Sector" cloning?

Angelos, welcome to these User Forums.

I have never needed to try cloning any Linux distro but I have and continue to make regular backups of my Linux EXT4 partitions with no issue and no mention of any symbolic links causing an issue.

If you are making a true clone of the entire Linux drive / partitions then any links to other locations on the same drive will be included as this is done at a sector level.  If you have symbolic links to other drives or locations not physically on the same drive then Acronis will not include the data at the end of those links.

Sector-by-sector backup or clone only applies to the source drive & partitions on the same.
