TI 2018 Ransomware Nightmares

Thread needs solution

Hi:

I purchased approx 13 licenses of TI 2018 several months ago and the ransomware component was flagging so many legit files I had to disable it and stop the services because when I'd reboot it would start up again.  I also noticed on the systray when I right click on the icon down there it says "turn off ransomware protection" when it's already off (service is stopped and systray icon is greyed out).  Is this ransomware component like a built-in antivirus in a way where it's constantly updated?  Have there been any updates or improvements to this component within the past few months??

thank you.
Keith

Welcome Keith,

Active Protection is a complex service of the True Image and Acronis Backup 12.5 products.  Your questions then involve a complex set of answers.  I cannot explain why your systray icon acts as it does, that would be best addressed by Aconis Support.

As for updates to Active Protection, the feature is not like traditional anti-virus, adware/spyware, spam detection as definitions are not the drivers behind the feature.  Instead the feature by design looks for and intercepts known activity patterns of current ransomware.  So when the feature flags a process of a file and serves warning this means that the process matches a known ransomware pattern.

I am attaching links to more on Ransomware and Active Protection.  Worth reading and should give you a much better understanding of the feature.
