TI2018 backup fails
I have been having a problem for some weeks which I have finally got round to trying to sort out.
I have a 2nd hard drive in my PC . Once a week I run a backup which copies the entire contents of my main HD to the secondary one.On Christmas Eve last the backup failed. I spent some weeks trying to find out what had gone wrong because after the backup failed the 2nd HD disappeared from my system. Last week I contacted Dell to find out what what going on. To cut a long story short we have run every conceivable diagnostic test and they have come back clear.
Further investigatrons have revealed that in the backup activity log it is showing write errors each time it fails. At about the same time Intel Rapid Storage Tecnology seems to kick in and it take the HD offline. That why it was disappearing from the system.
As I said the log is showing write errors each time it failed but the HD passes every diagnostic test. I am not sure what other information you might need

In reply to Hmmm. I assume you have… by truwrikodrorow…

Thanks for the reply. Part of the tests that Dell got me to do was to check all the cables and such. I have to say that a lot of what you say goes over my head. If it is OK I think I will cut and paste your message to DEll and see what they suggest

Yes, is OK to o the cut and paste. Sorry that it went over your head. A year or two back I would have had the same response. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Whilst getting the bits and pieces together for Dell I noticed 2 things. The first is that the time on the message from Intel Rapid Storage Technology which says "SATA available disk :Removed" is timed at about 2 minutes before the write error that TI 2108 records in the event log. The second thing I just noticed is that the TI 2018 email notification to me that the backup had failed gave the reason as "the system cannot find the path specified" which implies that it is not a true write error but the HD has been taken down before the error and is , in fact, the cause of it. Back to Dell then.

Yes looks like we have pinned down the issue. Hopefully Dell will have a solution to the problem.
