The question is where are you backing up to? That is usually the biggest factor. A NAS can be slow if there is low bandwidth - especially if backing up wirelessly or to a destination that is nearly full.

USB drives can be a bottle neck for some people due to only using ports, hubs or cables that are only USB 2.0 or 1.0 capable. Also, destination disks that are only 5400RPM can be slow too.

As an immediate test, I would try an offline backup with everything else b in the same but using rescue media to backup. If it's still slow, it's definitely not the installed software or OS that's the issue.

Murray, the log shows the following entries (abbreviated):

Looking at the above, the issue here looks to be with your J: drive or the connection to that drive, where Acronis is not able to complete writing the backup image to the drive because of a timeout error.  This could be because of your Power Options having such as USB Selective Suspend enabled, or a drive power issue etc.

What type of drive is your J: drive, how is it connected to the computer, does it have its own power supply, or is it powered from the USB port, what USB standard is involved here, i.e. 2.0 or 3.0?

If it is a USB drive that the backup is being made, the problem could be due to insufficient power getting to the drive - it is always best to attach drives to a port on the backplate; for reasons I do not understand, USB ports that are attached to headers on the main board can be problematic. I have noticed this more with USB 3.X ports than I have with USB 2 ports. As suggested above also check the power settings for the drive.
