Uninstall Acronis True Image 2010 vs 2018

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

I´ve tried to install Acronis True Image 2018. According to install information older version (2010) must be uninstalled. I carefully follow the Acronis procedure, including CleanUp Utility, check both low and upper filters on Windows Register.....

After that "hard job", the installation ATI 2018 procedure is giving the same message: you have to uninstall older version....

Any idea?

Thanks a lot.

Jose Maria, welcome to these public User Forums.

The Acronis Cleanup Tool should be capable of completely removing all traces of all older versions of ATI back to and including your 2010 version.

I would recommend trying the cleanup tool again and ensure that you do a restart of Windows after using the tool to complete the actions.

After the restart, please check that none of the following folders and registry entries are present:

Acronis folders.
C:\ProgramData\Acronis
C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis
C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\Acronis
C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Acronis\
C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Roaming\Acronis

Windows Registry entries.
HK Current User\Software\Acronis
HK Local Machine\Software\Acronis

Finally, check that there are no Acronis services and processes shown in Windows Task Manager on the Services and Details pages.

Cleaning Temp files can also fix this issue. Sometimes the installer sees Acronis files from previous installations in the %Temp% folder.

Thanks both Steve and Mustang.

I'm gonna kill my computer. I carefully checked all folders - including temp files - and registry entries, and the error continues.

At home, on my notebook, no problem when uninstalling 2010 and installing 2018. Both company and notebook computer are the same OS, W10.

My brain is going out of my head....

Is there any chance that ATI 2010 was installed from a different user account on this computer?

If you have more than one user account, then check each one in turn for the AppData folders.

See also KB 46710: Acronis True Image: Installation Fails in Windows - and in particular about the log information that can be collected for the install process that may help here.

Other things to check:

1. Registry entries at HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Acronis and HKCU\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Acronis.

2. Left over .sys and .dll files at C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\System32\Drivers. Look for files starting with snap that may have a number in them. Something like snapxxxx.dll or snapxxxx.sys. Where xxxx would represent a build number of True Image.

Dear both Mustang & Steve,

I've just solved the related problem. How? Browsing through Internet I found the following resource:

https://www.advanceduninstaller.com/Acronis-True-Image-Home-8d212257058…

Before installing it I was reading about. Then I decided to trust on it and SOLVED!!! After running uninstall, and using the same program I ran clean registry. After reboot the computer I've installed ATI 2018 without problems.

Thanks for your help & best regards.

José María, thank you for the update and good to know that you have been able to resolve this issue.  Sorry that you needed to use a third-party uninstall tool to do this but good that it worked!
