Universal Restore Questions

Thread needs solution

I have an XP machine with a lot of hobby specific (amateur radio) software. Some new products have come out recently that will not run on the old computer. I have a faster Windows 10 machine that I think will do the job. My questions are:

I have not yet installed my 3rd licensed copy of Acronis2018 on the XP machine...will it run under XP?

Will universal restore carry over the programs and data to the new machine and have them run under Win10, or will the process result in the new machine running XP?

Thanks, Steve

Steve, welcome to these User Forums.

Please see the following documents:

KB 19296: Acronis products cannot be used to transfer applications to different system or upgrade OS

Sorry but you cannot use Universal Restore to just carry over your programs and data from your XP system to the new Windows 10 one.  If you use Universal Restore you would need to restore the whole XP OS plus programs etc to the new Windows 10 computer, then run AUR to try to get this to work on the new hardware.  This may be a whole lot more difficult that it sounds due to limitations in XP and changes introduced in hardware with later OS versions.

If you have already got the Windows 10 system working and running OK, then please make a full disk & partitions backup of that computer to an external drive before you try anything else.  Either that, or invest in a spare disk drive to work with in the Win 10 computer, to replace the Win 10 OS drive.

Try installing Windows XP on the new computer hardware (to the new drive) and see if you can get it working before trying to migrate the old XP system across.

Thanks
