What does backup consolidation failed message mean?

Thread needs solution

I just did a normal full backup.  I initiated it manually after disabling Active Protection, manually deleting old versions, and resuming Active Protection, because ATI has somehow stopped deleting all old versions since last September!

ATI said when it began this backup that there were 346 MB to back up.  It ended at 9:45 am and immediately reported "backup consolidation failed" at that time, according to the log of actions.

The line reporting the backup results said "successfully backed up 103.3 MB" and "data to recover 124.4 MB".  Between them those figures do not add up to 346 MB.   There is a *.tib file in my storage drive but File Manager says it's  86,858,424 KB.

I don't know what the total of these reports means.  Did I get a complete backup of everything there was to back up?  What does the "...failed" msg mean?

Tom, Active Protection shouldn't make any difference with regards to your backup operation or file size - its purpose is to protect your .tib backup files from being attacked, deleted, altered etc by malware or other actors.

What exactly are you backing up here that has only less than 400MB of data?

Is this a Files & Folders type backup task?

How did you delete your old versions manually?

If you have deleted older .tib files manually via Explorer and the task that created those files is the one you are now having issues with, then that is because it stores information in an internal database about all the files that are created and that database is now mismatched to the actual status of files on your destination drive or location.

Consolidation is the method used by ATI to handle the automatic cleanup rules configured by you for the task, i.e. 'Store no more than 2 recent versions'.  Consolidation will fail when it goes looking for older versions to cleanup but you have already deleted these outside of the application.

You should either run a Validation for the task and answer each error popup message with either the cancel or ignore button for each missing file, or else use the information below to force the internal database to be rebuilt or start a new backup task and scrap the current one.
