What happens at license expiration?

Thread needs solution

I'm perfectly happy with ATI-2018, but was wondering what happens at license expiration if I do not renew:

- Does the program continue to work forever?

- The program works but I cannot do any upgrades or get support without paying a renewal fee?

- The program stops working and only begins again when I renew my license?

- Something else?

Thanks, Bill

Bill, the answer depends on what type of licence you own?

If you have a pepetual licence, then it will work 'forever' or until MS decides that Windows no longer likes it!

If you have a subscription licence, then you will get 30 days after the end of the subscription period during which you can renew but assuming that you do not do so, then all product function will stop working except for the ability to recover from a backup image made previously!

See KB 60121: Acronis True Image 2018 licensing for the definitive statement from Acronis where it states:

Standard license is unlimited in time. Annual subscription means your license is limited for 1 year. You can renew your subscription and continue using the product.

After your Acronis True Image subscription expires, all product functionality will be blocked until further subscription renewal, however, the backed up data is still accessible:

  • For 5 days after subscription expires you can continue making backups to cloud storage.
  • During 30 days after subscription expires you can restore data from Cloud Storage. Thirty days after subscription expiration the data in cloud storage is destroyed.
  • Local backups remain available for restore.

Mobile device is a device running iOS or Android. A tablet running Windows operating system is considered a computer.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for the comprehensive reply!  I believe I have a standard license, which means:

- I can continue to use ATI-2018 forever.

- I can update ATI-2018 whenever changes are available.

- I cannot upgrade to ATI-2019 unless I pay a new fee.

Do I understand everything correctly?

Thanks, Bill

Bill, that sounds right to me.  You can check what type of licence you have by looking at the products in your Acronis account.

My Account says that I have a "Perpetual License", so I guess I'm in good shape for awhile!  :)
