Will my backup plan work after swapping data drives?

Thread needs solution

I currently have a WD 1TB HD as my D: data drive. I also have a number of folders linked to this drive (e.g. Documents, Pictures, Videos, etc.)

My C: drive is an M.2 NVMe (Samsung 960 EVO). Since I have two M.2 slots, I just ordered a 500GB 970 EVO Plus. My plan is to make that drive D: and leave the WD HD as E: to hold less used stuff (backups of C:, Music, etc.)

To accomplish this, I will put the new drive in, boot and copy from the existing D: drive to the new SSD. Then I will do three drive letter changes so that the SSD becomes D: and the HD becomes E:

My question... will my regular ATI data backup plan for D: still work since there will be no change in the folders, but the drive ID will be different I assume.

Good question. It may be that all you need to do is to respect the source and destination for the back task.

Alternatively, clone the existing backup task and create a new one.

Of course this depends on what type of backup you are using in particular any exclusions. Are the directories that will no longer be on the D drive included or excluded from the existing backup.

Unless there is a good reason for not doing so I would go with a new backup task.
