Acronis 2018 cloning

Good evening all, I have 2 hard drives in my PC both are 1 TB and one I am using for my OS  the other I would like to use as a clone drive. Both drives are installed in the same PC and I wanted to have this second drive as a cloned drive just in case something was to happen to my main drive. I plan to reformat this second drive now and then and re-clone so it will be up do date. My question is am I able to do this? Can I have this second drive in the PC or does it have to be an external drive? Also is there any other suggestions the group may have for what it is I would like to do?

Thanks in advance

Cloning the drive and leaving it attached to the PC will mean you have two disks with the same disk signature which can cause many issues, including data loss. The simple solution would be to remove the power cable from the cloned disk once the clone has been created.

The one drawback I see to this approach is that there is no way of automating the updating of the clone, whereas with a backup rather than a clone you not only avoid the disk signature issue, but can schedule regular backups. If you use backup scheme with incremental backups the time for the backup will be greatly reduced. I always opt for the default of 5 incremental backups between full backups as things can go wrong with a large chain of incremental backups.
