This File is Corrupted

Thread needs solution

I have done many backups through the years, but this keeps happening with TI 2019. I can do the first full backup no problem  and use the Incremental settings, with Validation after completion, but I can't seem to get through the first Incremental backup without getting this error. Any help on avoiding this problem? I've already reinstalled the ATI 2019. Pressing Retry does nothing.

Randy, welcome to these public User Forums.

What is your 'Volume G:\" backup location and how is this connected to your computer?

What are the approximate sizes of the files involved in this backup task?

Do you have any other backup destinations that you can try to make the same backup to as an alternative to using G:\ ?

My initial thoughts would be that you have either an issue with drive G: or else there is an issue with either the connection to G: or with your memory.

If your G: drive is an external USB drive, then ensure that your power options are not set to allow the computer to do a 'USB selective suspend', that the drive is connected to a USB port of the same type as the drive itself, i.e. both USB 3.x if using that standard of drive, and that you are connecting to a USB port on the computer main board rather than via a hub.

What OS are you using, for example Win 10 Pro and build number? Please confirm the build of ATI you are using.

What sort of media are you backing up to. If it is a USB device it is possible that the power settings are resulting in the drive going into “sleep” mode, rendering it Inaccessible. I assume that you have done scan of the destination disk for errors. Also, not all USB ports are created equal; one attached to headers on the main board (such as those on the front of the case) rather than on the backplate on the motherboard can be less reliable - I have experienced issues with the former on one of my PCs. Try a different USB port. You could also try a different USB cable if you have an appropriate one.

Update- looks like Steve beat me to it - I am at a disadvantage as I am using my iPad which is not friendly for touch typing!

Thanks for your replies guys. All right I understand most of what you are saying for me to do however what gets me about this whole thing is that the first backup I do goes through without a problem. It's always the incremental first one to the full backup that gets corrupted.

I am using Windows 10 home and the backup drive I'm using is a verbatim 1tb. It always worked perfectly with the other ati's 2016 on up until we got to ATI 2019. I just can't seem to get past doing a incremental backup pass the first full one. I have to look but I do believe my computer it's a laptop an Acer has a different size USB port. I think the Acer maybe two and the verbatim is newer so it's a 3. Still doesn't make sense that it does a perfect backup when I first do it and then when I go to do the incremental it tells me that it's corrupted. As for the power options I'm not sure what you guys are talking about.

Randy, if your Verbatim USB drive is USB 3.x then this has a 50% higher power requirement than a USB 2.x drive supplies, so you should either use a USB 3 port, if available (they have a different colour than the older USB 2 ports), or else you should be using a powered USB 3 hub.

For the power options settings, if you click on the laptop battery icon in the system tray, you should then see a menu showing 'Power options' - open this, then go into the advanced settings and look for those for USB devices, which is where the USB selective suspend would be found.

The key difference between creating a full backup and an incremental backup is that with the full, the process is continually writing to the backup drive, whereas with the incremental, there are likely to be longer periods where ATI is simply scanning for changes and the drive is idle, thus open to being suspended.

Here are the selective suspend settings. I use my Laptop as a "desktop" computer as it has a 19 inch screen. It was the biggest screen available at the time and I liked it.PS: Had to replace said screen once. OUCH!!! Anyway enabled or not???

Try setting the USB to disabled for the mode used when the backup is run, i.e plugged in, if this the case.

Laptop screens vary greatly for fitting a replacement - the last one I changed a week back was the easiest yet with just 4 tiny screws & a clip on bezel!
