Recommended backup on acronis cloud, to keep it simple and not use much space.

Thread needs solution

What would be the simplest recommended online backup schedule for this laptop?I would like to keep it simple and not let the cloud available space to fill quickly.  Any suggestions? Thank you.

I have a laptop that I want to use for work, mainly to use software like dragon professional, Abby FineReader 14 for OCR capabilities, dropbox, google drive, google chrome,  and other work related software. The laptop is working perfectly now after upgrading to a new SSD drive and a clean windows 10 installation.

I won't have much data to back up, basically, I want all the software running well and the laptop to be fast. If I install a new software that is slowing down the computer, I would like to be able to revert to a image backup to the time  before I did a bad software installation or to the time before I noticed the problems.

Thanks

You can specify clean-up rules that will (hopefully) mean that you will not run out of space. You can also do a manual clean-up. This applies to both Cloud and local backups.

I would not rely solely on Cloud backup, I would also backup to USB HDD or large capacity USB Stick.

One thing to remember when doing Cloud backups is that the time taken for the initial back (an subsequent backups) depends on the upload speed you get from your ISP. I currently have 100/5 cable (previously 100/2.5) and an initial backup, depending on how it is configured can take several days (depending on the amount of data being backed up). All subsequent backups are incremental and are much faster (except after a major OS update).

Lanl,

Thank you for your suggestions. I will also back up to an external hard drive. Thank you for explaining the cloud  back up is incremental, I could not find it in the documentation.

I am planning to do my backups to the cloud manualy becuase the connection to the internet at work is very slow. I will to the cloud backup when I bring the computer home over the weekends.

I don't understand very well the clean up rules, I will do it manually if I am running out of space.

Are the backups to the cloud Image files?

Roberto, backups to the Acronis Cloud are a hybrid form of Incremental backups - you will only ever make one Full backup to the Cloud, and then ATI will use a Delta algorithm to determine what has changed and only upload those changes.

You backup to the Cloud is not held in image files as you would see when making local backups and .tib files are excluded from Cloud backups by default.

The Cloud cleanup rules are also different to these you have available for local backups and are found on the Advanced Options page for a Cloud task, where this is described in terms of the number of versions of backups to keep and for how long, which is where you can control the amount of space in the Cloud storage you are using.

Thank you Steve Smith, I enjoy reading your posts.

I will pay more attention to the .tib files as a way to distinguish back up formats.
