Restoring partition Structure” It FAILS to do so?
Hello
Info:
Windows_11 & 10 O/S . Format of disk NTFS. Size 500GB
I am using Acronis True Image 14110
Which has served me very well over the years.
A problem has arisen with it and I would like to pose the question to see if someone can give me an answer to my query?
I make regular Images of the whole of C: drive
I use Acronis self-booting off a USB stick.
I don’t trust windows environment to handle this task!
I keep multiple images (full images) in case I want to roll back.
I always, without fail validate my images made straight after making the full image!
Today I wanted to restore a previous Image so I ran through the restore process. When Acronis got to the final restoration point where it
Says “Restoring partition Structure” It FAILS to do so.
Despite the fact it had validated the image before restoring.
So, I worked back through my old stored Images and finally when I got back to 5th in line image which went back to December 2021 it restored perfectly.
And from there on all the older images 6, 7, 8 where restorable.
Has anyone got an idea what is going on here?
Thank You.

Thank you Steve,
I was thinking on the same lines .
the structure of the disk may be faulty.
If that was so would Acronis still validate the image ?
But then fail at the last minute
“Restoring partition Structure” ?

George, validation has nothing to do with partition structure or integrity!
Validation is purely a method of confirming that the backup image (as written to disk) remains unchanged from the time of writing to disk. It does this by reading in each block of the backup file and recalculating a checksum for the block then comparing it with checksum values embedded in the file. If the recalculated checksum matches the stored checksum, then the file is validated / remains unchanged since created.
Recovery first clears any existing partition structures on the destination / target disk, then attempts to recreate the partition structures as captured in the backup image, including making any size changes if the image is being recovered to a larger or smaller drive.

Thank you Steve for the informative explanation on validation.
I am thinking if I update the Acronis software it's not going to fix my problem of the current images not been able to install them ? what do you think?
I have taken a quick look online and I see there is an
Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Build 39620 which is suitable for a Boot CD/USB
Would this be good to Buy / upgrade to ?

George, please be aware that ACPHO is now a subscription only product. Acronis are no longer providing any perpetual licensed products!
If your ATI 2021 and 2019 applications are doing what you need at this time, then I would suggest staying with them until such time as they are no longer able to meet your needs unless you want to move to an annual subscription with all the extra Acronis Cyber Protect features bundled in.
If you are not wanting a subscription solution and want to consider a different solution, then see forum topic: Reflecting on a Post-ATI World

Hi,
I could not get Acronis 14110
To restore images, it had made of my laptop.
So, I tried a later version of Acronis 17750 and
ATI 2019 build 18100
I went as far as to make new images using
ATI 2019 build 18100
And tried to restore to my laptop.
It FAILED.
So as a test I used Macrium Reflect 8 to make an image.
Turned the laptop off re booted into Macrium Reflect 8
And restored the image no problem.
Also Macrium Reflect 8 knows what a touchpad is on a laptop!
The drives I was using were
Boot drv C:
Western Digital WDS500G2B0B WD Blue 3D NAND Internal SSD M.2 SATA, 500 GB
Drive storing the Images: D:
SanDisk SSD PLUS 1 TB Sata III 2.5 Inch Internal SSD, Up to 535 MB/s, Black
I do not have a clue what is going on here:
As a side issue Acronis 14110
Will back up and restore to my main PC.
And the Western Digital WDS500G2B0B drive is brand new
I bought it from Amazon yesterday just in case the old drive was faulty.
Which diagnostic test indicated it was in a good state!
