System Image Choices

Thread needs solution

What is the difference between an "Entire PC Backup" and an "Acronis Survival Kit"? I just switched from Acronis True Image 2016 to ATI 2019 and have been doing an Entire PC Backup (the equivalent of "Windows System Image".) in the past with 2016.

Is the Survival Kit a better choice? And why?

The survival kit involves the creation of a small partition on USB drive that has Acronis Recovery Media on it - making the drive bootable. You can then store you backup (however configured) on the USB drive that contains the survival kit - this will be on partition 1 (the recovery media being on partition 0). You can have Entire PC Backup, or just a backup of one HHD (for example the drive with the OS on it). If your computer has multiple HDD, then it is recommended by many experienced users to have a different backup task for each rather than using whole PC.

I don't understand why I need a separate, dedicated USB drive to do this.  What's the advantage of making a "Survival Kit" over just doing individual partition backups to one of my regular external drives? :(
