When adding existing backup .tib files for custom file backup, source file configuration is gone

Thread needs solution

Example:
I'm creating a file backup for /Users/user1/.gitignore to /target/dotfiles.tib. This also creates a /target/dotfiles.tib.metadata file.

When I hide the backup from Acronis, but I still have the .tib files, how can I get back the original configuration for this backup when going through "Add existing backup"?

In the Acronis UI it says "source unavailable" so it doesn't remember that I wanted to backup the file /Users/user1/.gitignore, but I expect that Acronis can retrieve the config the .tib.metadata file.

For backup up multiple files it gets a bit tedious to replicate these configurations.

Michiel, welcome to these public User Forums.

If you have .tib.metadata files along with your .tib files then this suggests that you are using the ATI 2019 for Mac version of the application, as the Windows version does not create metadata files.

I can only reference what happens on the Windows ATI app as am not a Mac user, but when adding an existing backup it is always necessary to reconfigure the backup task settings for Source selection etc.  That configuration data is not embedded in the .tib files (on Windows).

You may want to ask your question in the ATI for Mac Forum where other Mac users can offer their opinions on how this is handled for that product.

Finally, please see the ATI 2019 for Mac User Guide: Adding an existing backup to the list - which speaks about reconfiguring the settings.

You can restore data from all backups in the list. You can also reconfigure backups created on the same Mac.

To reconfigure a backup:

  1. Click the backup source icon, and then select what you want to back up.
  2. [Optional step] Schedule your backup to run on a regular basis.
  3. To start the backup, click Back Up.

Hello Michiel,

yes, the backup source should be set anew after reconfiguration. I've added this topic as a vote for the feature request TI-170836 Populate backup source automatically on Reconfigure. Thank you!
