Acronis hangs at Creating and Merging Partitions

Thread needs solution

Hey guys, I have a Windows 10 pc with a WD 250GB SSD m.2

I purchased a WD 500GB Nvme m.2 to upgrade.

Whenever I use acronis, either manual or automatic, it hangs at Copying and Merging partitions.

Any help appreciated.

This is the Western Digital version of Acronis.

Pierre, welcome to these public User Forums.

See KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products which applies to all OEM versions of ATI supplied with hardware purchases.

Please see KB 56634: Acronis True Image: how to clone a disk - and review the step by step guide given there.

Note: the first section of the above KB document directs laptop users to KB 2931: How to clone a laptop hard drive - and has the following paragraph:

It is recommended to put the new drive in the laptop first, and connect the old drive via USB. Otherwise you will may not be able to boot from the new cloned drive, as Acronis True Image will apply a bootability fix to the new disk and adjust the boot settings of the target drive to boot from USB. If the new disk is inside the laptop, the boot settings will be automatically adjusted to boot from internal disk. As such, hard disk bays cannot be used for target disks. For example, if you have a target hard disk (i.e. the new disk to which you clone, and from which you intend to boot the machine) in a bay, and not physically inside the laptop, the target hard disk will be unbootable after the cloning.

It is strongly recommended that you have a full disk backup of your original source disk before embarking on any cloning operation - this is your safety net in case of mistakes, issues etc.

See forum topic: Steve migrate NVMe SSD where I documented the process that I used when upgrading my laptop NVMe SSD drive using Backup & Restore.

Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately, I am nowhere near debugging the actual clone and cloning never starts.

Waited 2 hours and Acronis was still stuck at the same place: Creating and merging partitions.

I cannot have the new drive in the computer as my USB case is Nvme only.

I finally tried EasyUS backup to clone and it worked fine.

I was very surprised that Acronis did not work as I had been using it for years.

To help you guys for quality control, I did see errors in the logs pertaining to "Bad Gateway" as Acronis seemed to be looking for a server somewhere...
