Acronis True Image 2018 upgrade to 2020..will it preserve configuration/settings etc.?

Thread needs solution

Hi folks,

I've got Acronis 2018 running nicely on my PC, and it's configured to access my NAS device through two routers (for security) and it works like a charm. It took some setting up in the early days but now that's a few years ago and I can't remember the pain, just like a dentist:)

So my question is.. if I upgrade to 2020, will all those lovely configurations/settings be preserved and will it work seamlessly with my NAS as it currently does... or am I facing into another round of configurations/testing to get it there as part of any upgrade? Also want to make sure it preserves settings re backup schedules etc.

All info greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

If you do an in place installation (not uninstalling) ATI 2019 everything should work as before.

There is a problem with disk and partitions backups but only if they exceed about 600 gig.

New disk and partitions backups use the new *.tibx format.

existing backups to NAS continue to work.

So Ian, do you mean I should do an in-place upgrade from 2018 to 2019 first, and then again to 2020 or can I go from 2018 to 2020?

Rob, see KB 63219: How to upgrade to Acronis True Image 2020 and the statement lower down the page where it says:

Upgrade procedure

An upgrade license can only be used with a full license of a previous version as a base.

If your current version of Acronis True Image is Acronis True Image 2019 or Acronis True Image 2018, the new version will simply update it; there is no need to remove the old version and reinstall the software. If your current version is older, we recommend that you remove the current version, first.

Word of advice... take a good, full system backup with 2018 before you upgrade, just in case.  That way, if you upgrade to 2020 and any issues arise, you can restore back to the most recent point in time with 2018.  For the most part, the upgrades seem to be going well.

However, IMHO, I think you may want to hold off on 2020 until the next update comes out.

Thank you for the advice.

Do you happen to know when the next 2020 update is due to be released?

Not known at this time - but wouldn't expect one very soon given the last update was just last week when #20770 was released on Aug 30th.  There are some serious issues that Acronis are working on that we hope may make it into the next build but guess we all will have to wait and see what it brings?

The last update was a "hot fix" not the usual description; it is possible we may see further "hot fix" updates before we get a normal update. But who knows. If the next update is a "hot fix" the time frame may be shorter, but I am just speculating.

Ian

OK thanks. Sounds like maybe I should leave it a few months before upgrading to 2020. There's no point I guess in upgrading to 2019 in between so I'll wait until later in the year or maybe early 2020 to do the upgrade. Thanks again for the advice.

Rob, keep an eye on this forum for any new announcements for when an actual Update version of 2020 is announced (rather than a Hotfix one), then review the changes for that.
