Acronis Won't Make Differential Backup

Thread needs solution

I have backups setup and full backup works. But when I try to do differential backup it still does a full backup. The Backup Scheme is set to Differential.

All backup schemes must have a Full backup created before any further incremental or differential backups for the same backup task / scheme.  These cannot be create as separate backups from a full backup.

Then I don't understand what these schemes are and how they work (it was all simpler in Acronis Backup 11.7). I ran a full backup with the defaults: "Custom Scheme" and "Full".  I couldn't find any place to specify differential for subsequent backups - only thing I found was specifying "differential" in the scheme. So that's what i changed.

When you select to create a backup task that uses the Differential backup scheme, then this has to create an initial Full backup first, after which it will create Differential backups based on the differences identified since the initial full backup when the task is run again.

A Differential cannot be created without reference to a previous full backup.

I would recommend reading through the first few sections of the ATI 2020 User Guide which will give you a good introduction to how to use the application and in particular, look at the Basic Concepts > Full, incremental and differential backups section which describes how each of these backup schemes work in more details.
