ATI 2021 has turned useless due to its slowness

Thread solved

Since end of January I am trying to create nightly backups but in the morning I always have to abort them, since they typically threaten to still require >12h for completion. I can not afford to leave my system at home just for backup purposes. Till January a nightly backup (when started before midnight) was typically finished by 7'o clock in the morning. The involved disks haven't changed (my laptop's disk is 1TB, about 85% filled, my backup device is a WD passport Ultra w/ ~2TB), so that new slowness must be caused by an ATI update that was distributed around then. For me this has rendered ATI essentially useless.

I remember that this was the case already once about 2 years ago and back then this was fixed by another ATI update about a month later. So, when can we expect another update-of-the-update that fixes this issue this time?

Michael, there is unlikely to be any more new updates for ATI 2021 beyond the most recent one to fix some security issues related to the Acronis Cloud and Dashboard features.

Your options at this point would be to try doing a Repair Install of ATI 2021 if you wish to continue using Acronis software, or upgrade to ACPHO on subscription, else look at an alternative solution.

KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - has details.

Forum topic: Reflecting on a Post-ATI World has a discussion on alternative solutions.

Thanks for responding and the links. Very enlightening and quite a pity!

I guess I'll give Paragon a try. I had used that on misc. other occasions, esp. when doing disk images cloning and migrating system images to new devices and it had always worked well.

I never tested nor used it as a file level backup tool, though, let alone incremental backup tool.  But I'll check what it has to offer there. Otherwise I'll return to that referenced thread to look for alternatives.

EDIT: I had meant to mark Steve's append as solution but while I did so the website suddenly refreshed underneath and the click hit my own response, i.e. I accidentally marked my own response as solution. How can I unmark that and pass the credit to Steve's response?

Michael, the way the forums work, users cannot make changes to such as marking solutions etc, only the forum moderator may be able to do so!  Not to worry, happy to help!

Just for the records: I moved on to Macrium Reflect 8 Home. Paragon turned out to be not much faster than Acronis (and more cumbersome to use) while Macrium does the backup job very nicely and - above all - in less than 3 hours! That's about 7x as quick a Acronis and even leaves enough head-room for future, bigger disks.

Kissing Acronis good bye...
