Cannot backup second image on same disc?

Thread needs solution

Hello everyone,

Since I'm only getting same error that my key is registerd already while trying to get support (although I've bought recently 3 enduring licenses through Amazon.de) I'll try my luck using this forum. I cannot get in touch with Acronis in any other way, this is harsh and ridiculous!

My problem (I speak German as well):

I've succesfully made an image on a harddisk with 750 Gb memory.

Since I'Ve three computers (all stand alone) I'd like to make a image from a second computer on the same harddisk.

Unfortunately this always goes wrong giving me the error message that something went wrong while writing, knowing that there's sufficient/plenty memoryspace for a second image!!

So I used two disk check programs and both, after hours of scanning, give me a fine working disk without hardware failures. It's a brandnew disk by the way.

So could someone provide me a solution. Thanks very very much!

Kind regards, Henri

Henri, welcome to these public User Forums.

Please can you confirm what version of ATI you are using here?  Is it ATI 2020 build 22510 as per this forum?

Do you have the same version of ATI installed / activated on your 3 computers?

Please download the MVP Log Viewer tool (link in my signature below) and use this to review the log file for your backup operation. This should provide more information on why you are seeing any notification messages?

Also, what type of backup are you creating; disk and partitions, full computer; have you selected sector-by-sector (not sure why it would make a difference but you never know).

Ian

Thanks for the replies.

I have bought a licence for three computers and downloaded True Image form the Acronis website in Germany.

I have installed True Image 2020 Build 22510 on three computers (Windows 8, Windows 10 and Windows 8.1)

Windows 8.1 is causing the problem. On this computer previously True Image 2013 had been instaleld, but I've deleted that in favour of the new 2020 version.

I've created FULL computer backups on all of them, except for the Win 8.1 computer which was not possible (on that machine I also tried the volumes and sectors backup).

On that computer in 2014 I was able to make an image using True Image 2013 ('full computer' as I always do, that I still have on DVD (by the way does Acronis (in Germany) still have the service of providing the customer with DVDs with backups as they unexpectedly did in 2013 after I had downloaded True Image from their website?).

I've uploaded two of the any log files (since I've tried it over and over again on several days).

These log files show you the three types of error codes I constantly get in the log files.

The HDD is okay and it has always been connected to the computer while making an image.

But the error message (& log file) tells me that it misses something on the computer itself (but I'm making an image 'full computer' of the whole computer, so what kind of file could it miss then?). Same problem when using 'sectors and volumes'.

How is it possible I was able to make an image in 2014 with True Image 2013 and now with True Image 2020 all of a sudden I get error messages?

(BTW for the forum's administrator: I've created a test message here in this forum since it doens't show up this message in the list when you enter the forum). Wherecan I find my messages when I'Ve logged out an get back in? Since I didn't find my first message at first glance, only by clicking my own name with my second contribution here.

Your help is appreciated very much, thank you.

Kind regards,

Henri

Henri, please can you create an Acronis System Report on your Windows 8.1 computer where you are having a problem.  This will help give us the best chance of finding what problem is stopping your backup from working correctly.

See KB 58820: Acronis True Image: Collecting System Report for how to create the report zip file.

If you can share the zip file via a cloud service such as Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox etc that would be great as it is going to be larger than the 3MB file size limit for the forum posts.

If you don't want to give out a share link in the forums, then send it to me via a private message using the 'send message' link below my name in posts.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply.

I've  created an Acronis system report, the download link is here:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1MNZ_a6Omci4c9t6WtNUJ-h_yxxg8Xllj

I tried another backup but still failed.

As far as I'm concerned it probably could have to do with the fact that previsouly I've created an image with Acronis True Image 2013 on this machine, because Acronis constantly pops up by deafult with the old image I've created way back then in 2014, but I like to make a new image. So I DELETED that old one (since I still have that old one on a different HDD) and renamed the image form "ACER4Gb2014" to "ACER4Gb2020" and liked to create a new image, but still backing up fails.

Hope you're able to help me.

Kind regards,

Henri

The problem is (I suspect) that ATI 2020 can read ATI 2013/2014 backups it cannot write backups that were originally configured in ATI 2020; see Knowledge base 2069

backups of Windows computers created with:
Acronis True Image 2019, Acronis True Image Subscription,
Acronis True Image 2018, Acronis True Image Subscription
Acronis True Image 2017, Acronis True Image Subscription
Acronis True Image 2016, Acronis True Image Cloud (Release 2016)
Acronis True Image 2015
Acronis True Image 2014*
True Image 2013 by Acronis*
Acronis True Image Home 2012*
Acronis True Image Home 2011*
Acronis True Image Home 2010*
Acronis True Image Home 2009*
Acronis True Image Home 11*

* Backups can only be restored. Other operations can be limited. It is necessary to create a new backup plan / archive.

Thus you need to create a completely new backup.

Ian

Henri, thank you for the System Report zip file link.

From what I can see from an initial browse of the logs etc, you look to be making an 'Entire PC' backup but are trying to write this to drive G: which is included in the 'Entire PC' source data selection!

The first test to try here is to do a Disks & Partitions backup and select only your main WD 466GB disk drive to backup to your G: MAIWO HDD 699GB drive.

To see the option for Disks & Partitions, click through on the Source selection panel to reveal the further options shown below this panel.

Ian & Steve, thank you both for your replies.

@Ian: I completely uninstalled ATI 2013 and then tried to make an image of the C: and D: drive but it unfortunately failed as described in my previous contributions. On the other machine I had ATI 2013 installed on it, it went fine after deinstalling ATI 2013 and using ATI 2020.

@Steve: That makes sense, I indeed included 'whole PC' (which then of course includes external devices), so I tried your proposal. I've included three pictures of what I get to see when doing so. The G: Drive is the MAIWO HDD. Unfortuntaley it still fails and gives me in german the message of: 'No information about the file contents' which doesn't make any sense to me....what file? It seems it cannot find a specific file.

When I start it all it always pops up with the old name ACER4GB2014 although I've removed it. Even when I change the name to ACER4GB2020 and the backup process fails again. I remove the failed backup ACER4GB2020 and it again pops up with this old name ACER4GB2014 when trying to make a new backup (so I have to rename it over and over again).

It somehow looks like in the registry or somewhere else this old name is kept and propably the backing up process expects a specific .tib file form the old 2014 session, since it failes after 19% of the backing up process with this message of 'No information about the file contents'.

Well, looking forward for your highly appreciated help!

Kind regards,

Henri

Henri,

Your logs show that your backup fails when creating the VSS snapshot of your disk.  I recommend that you download and run the Acronis VSS Doctor tool and allow the tool to fix any errors it finds.  After that run the backup again and see if it works.  Link to the VSS Doctor tool is Here

Last update.

VSS is constantly giving mapping errors, doesn't make sense since all drives are mapped uniqely. The rest is okay according to VSS.

I'm completely done now with Acronis after 10 years. I've used instead AOMEI (completely free for private use), which is able to make an image on the fly as well, to solve my problem. And that works fine!

It's completely ridiculous:

1. that I don't get support from Acronis itself being a customer (I have paid for ATI 2020 and previous versions) (although I appreciate the help from you guys here in this forum),

2. and uncceptable that I'm not able to install my ATI2013 on my Win8.1 machine. As a customer I don't care if it is not valuable for Acronis to longer support older versions on new Windows editions (which has been said in an older post in this forum). I have bought my ATI2013 and I bought it on LIFE TIME! (not just for a mere 7 years).

Acronis has lost a customer after 10 years. I have a free alternative and that works fine for me. Bye bye.

If your license is registered to another account, you can either sign in to the account where the serial number is registered and then open a support ticket, or select "Trial\Activation\Presales\Licensing question" category at https://www.acronis.com/support/contact-us/, which does not require a SN validation. Acronis support team will help you to transfer the license.

Or you can try moving it to the correct account per instructions from 59680: Acronis True Image: "The serial number is registered to another account" error
