Cannot Rename Cloned Task

Thread needs solution

I recently upgraded from ATI 2017 to ATI 2020 I have 2 PCs that are using the same backup drive destination with the same path syntax and different target folders On PC-A, the Acronis backup tasks contain .tib files and the task drop-down has multiple options including "Rename" On PC-B, I had so much trouble getting ATI 2020 to to work, I deleted all the backup files and Acronis backup tasks I then setup all new Acronis tasks but after creating the first, the only drop-down options I had were "Clone settings" and "Delete". This PC has multiple external drives that are backed up and each has 3 Acronis backup tasks where all are the same except for the name, schedule and destination folder. In past version of Acronis this was easy to setup as after creating he first task, I would either clone or use the default setting for the rest. But now, there is no longer an option to create a "Default" task and the "Clone" option oddly, does not allow the name to be changed. Note PC-B is creating .TBX files Was the "Default" setup option removed? Why can't the Cloned task be renamed? Any help much appreciated!

As far as I am aware, this is a limitation in the current version of ATI 2020 and was reported many times during the beta program for this release.

I can only suggest setting unique backup names immediately that you create a new backup task as this is the only way in which you can do so at this time.

Thanks, it helps to at least know my system is behaving as designed.

It really beggars belief that a product as mature as ATI would exhibit such unorthodox behavior- a configuration component that cannot be renamed and a clone of same that imposes a simplistic name that also cannot be changed.

In all my too many years of coding and software use, I have never seen anything like this.

Does Acronis have a design review team?

I would like to believe that they do but........!

Hello Everyone,

support of renaming plans for .tibx archives is currently expected to be added in the Update 2

Sure would be quite a time saver! Any idea when update 2 is coming out?

Update 2 came out late last year and Update 3 was a couple of weeks ago, this issue remains without a fix yet.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for the update to the timeline. This is ridiculous. This product should have never been released until the functionality at least equaled what was present before. Acronis has lost my trust. I'm looking for a new platform.

I need the feature to rename backups. Can I rename files instead? What is the procedure?

As I understand it you cannot rename the backup files - the backup will cease to work. ATI 2021 is currently in beta testing and this feature may be in the new version. I cannot say as there is a non disclosure agreement. You could join the program and find out for yourself.

You can rename the backup file if there is only the one .tibx file present - the issues arise when there are more than one .tibx file as then Acronis is using metadata to create linkages between the files, so renaming the files doesn't work because then it is mismatched to the metadata held in the files!
