Continuous Backup

Thread solved

I have just discover that it seems that TrueImage 2020 has a continuous backup function which stores changes to files such as Word docs. I tried to follow previous articles but I don't quite get it. Can some one take me through the process step by step?

Keith, I would suggest reading the section: Using Acronis Nonstop Backup in the ATI 2020 User Guide which will give you an introduction into this feature and the limitations it has.

Please note that changes to such as Word docs are only captured when they are written out to disk by the act of saving the document or autosave settings that are configured in the Word preferences.

I don't use this feature myself because I have no need for such continuous backup (the joys of being long retired etc).

I too am retired. I have just had to reconstruct my ssd which ran a PC Magazine piece of software Instback  that kept as many versions, mainly documents, as one would specify. I had great use of that when writing papers and theses. Alas Instaback is no more so I was hoping Nonstop backup would do the same job.

What the article you suggested did not show is how to actually set up the non stop backup

Keith, setting up NSB is actually very simple!

Create a new backup task and select the source data / documents folder(s) that you want to protect in this way, select the destination location to be used, then click on the Options button.

Open the Scheduler page and select Nonstop from the list of options shown - doing so will then cause all the other settings page tabs to be greyed out except for the Exclusions tab.

Click on Ok when done then click on Back up now to start the NSB task.

The key point about NSB is that you can only have one such task per PC.

I agree with Steve that setting it up is relatively simple. I prefer to use full path rather than relying on "shortcuts" such as Documents. I suspect doing so is more important if the PC is set up for multiple users.
