Corrupted .TIBX backups

Thread needs solution

Last night an unplanned/unexpected shutdown occurred during an Acronis 2020 full backup.

Now ALL of the backup chains are corrupted and unusable.

I have LOST daily backups back to 7/31/2020 ... 1.25TB of backups

I have even lost the backup configuration

I have uninstalled Acronis 2020 and reverted to Acronis 2019 in order to use the more reliable .TIB format

Martin, sorry to read of the issues but I would suspect that you should have been able to recover at least some, if not most of your backup data by using a combination of validation and the clean up versions tool (to remove the failed backup).

Given you have reverted back to ATI 2019, there is little else I can suggest as that version cannot work with .tibx files.

Responding to Steve Smith ...

Validation would not work

A double-click on each .TIBX resulted in a 'corrupted' pop-up message

All 3 backup chains were corrupted

The Acronis 2019 backup to a .TIB took 5 hours instead of the typical 7+ hours for a .TIBX backup

Martin, if possible please report this corruption to Acronis using the Feedback tool and an Acronis System Report (assuming there may still be log files present from ATI 2020 and you didn't use the Acronis Cleanup tool to remove all trace of 2020 before reinstalling 2019).

Did you attempt to use the Clean up versions tool in ATI 2020 for this backup task before uninstalling 2020?

The feedback tool is a great way to report such things and help to improve the site.

Let us review ...

1. .TIB each backup operation (full or incremental) creates a file ... a newer backup does not impact a prior backup

2. TIBX creates a backup file for each backup cycle -- data from the full backup and data from the incremental backups go into the same file ... when something goes wrong (unplanned shutdown; network glitch, low space on backup media) the backup chain becomes corrupted and the all of the backups become UNUSABLE

We should also consider the backup speed

1. TIB backups for my configuration (about 580GB to recover) take 3 hours for a full backup and 21 minutes to 27 minutes for an incremental backup

2. TIBX backups for my configuration (about 560GB to recover) take about 7 hours for a full backup and 27 minutes to 40 minutes for an incremental backup

Please don't try to blame my LAN for the speed variation ... My LAN is gigabit capable; I often test the LAN speed; during a backup, Task Manager shows the actual LAN transfer speed to my Synology NAS to be 200 to 400 Mbps;

Since February, 2020 I have been impacted by the operation and performance of Acronis 2020 and the TIBX format.

I have spent about 100 hours in chat sessions with Acronis support ... without getting any clear resolution to my reliability and performance issues

I raised a question in this forum about how to setup a .TIB backup in Acronis 2020 ... That post did not get approved by Acronis moderators ... I had to find my own path and reverted to Acronis 2019

See forum topic: How to create a Disk backup as .tib (not .tibx) which will create a new backup task using the older .tib format in the Windows ATI 2020 GUI.
