Data partition deleted when updating Survival Kit

Thread needs solution

I've been using a Western Digital backup drive for about a year, to backup several home PCs with Acronis True Image 2019.  The backup drive already had a survival kit installed.  When I started ATI on one of the PCs to run a backup, it offered to do an UPDATE on the backup drive's survival kit.  It said the backup drive would not be formatted.  I said ok, and after about a minute it said there had been an error.  When I checked the backup drive, I found that it had been formatted and was now a FAT type drive.  All of the other backups that were on this drive were lost.

I've seen other complaints about this same problem on this forum.  Is Acronis going to fix this bug?

Ben, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry to read of the issues with your Survival Kit drive - doing an update should never cause the drive to be formatted without giving the user the option to decline!

I would hope that any partition recovery application would be able to recover the data on the drive for you!

See forum topic: HOW-TO: Fix Acronis Survival Kit fails to create where other issues have been discussed.

Personally, having created a Survival Kit, I have never let ATI do any updates to it as it is easier to manage this myself and just copy an updated boot.wim file to the drive \sources folder.  This just requires that the hidden FAT32 folder is accessible in Explorer and has a drive letter assigned to it.

I create updated rescue media using the MVP Custom PE builder tool then just copy the .wim file from the tool folder (after renaming it to boot.wim).
