Full backup tibx file is only seen when ATI2020 is run from Win10, not USB rescue stick

Thread needs solution

Have brand new Dell G3 laptop with Windows10 and 2 internal drives, Boot(C:) and Data(D:). I created a folder on Data drive called "Acronis 2020 image backups". Then I ran ATI 2020 while in Windows 10 and successfully created a full disc backup tibx file of the Boot(C:) drive in my Acronis 2020 image backups folder. I then created a rescue media using the simple method on a 4GB USB stick. I then restarted computer, pressed F12 to get one time boot menu, and chose the Acronis rescue USB. Acronis 2020 loaded fine. I selected recover disk and browsed for my tibx file but it is not seen. In fact no subfolders are seen on either the C or D drives. When I reboot back into Win 10, and run ATI2020 from Windows, Acronis sees the folders and tibx file. How do I get the rescue version of Acronis to see my tibx file?

Paula, welcome to these public User Forums.

When you boot from the Acronis USB rescue media, there are 2 options for how this boots, one is Legacy / MBR for older computers, and the second is for UEFI / GPT for newer computers.

See KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

The rescue media needs to be used matching the boot mode used by your Windows 10 OS.

Thanks for responding Steve. I tried both by creating two different USB sticks, one with the newer UEFI and one with the older legacy. Both boot fine into Acronis TI, but neither sees my folders or files. The UEFI one is better in that it does see all the drives, whereas the legacy boot doesn't even see all the drives(partitions). However, neither one sees my folders or files.

I went into the laptop BIOS setup and it says its using UEFI. Also both drives have GPT partitioning.

Paula,  My solution is; Create the USB stick with Rufus  https://rufus.ie/

Meine Lösung ist; Erstellen Sie den USB-Stick mit Rufus ( https://) rufus.ie

Paula, please confirm what build of ATI 2020 you are using for both Windows, and that the same was used to create the rescue media.

All rescue media can boot using either UEFI / GPT or Legacy / MBR modes, so there is no separate media for each of these.  The key difference is in how the media is booted, so for your computer, it needs to be used in UEFI mode so that your GPT drive(s) are accessible.

What are you using for your backup drive in this scenario?
What size of drive, and how is it formatted?

When ATI 2020 first was released, the default view in the rescue media was for only .tib files which caused some confusion as it didn't show .tibx files, but this was changed in later builds to show both .tib & .tibx in the default view.  Check what type of files you are being shown as default in the rescue media?

One further thought, please ensure that when you are booting from the rescue media, that you have done a full shutdown first, so that you are not in a hybrid sleep (aka hibernation) state when using the rescue media.  To do a full shutdown, press & hold a Shift key then click on Shutdown.
