How to stop in progress backup
i configured Acronis 2020 to backup my HDD. It was working fine (daily) and then one day it did not complete. When I access it now, the backup is running and I can't stop it. It starts as soon as I start Acronis. I have used the STOP button but the backup never stops. The only way I can stop it is by ending the task in Task Manager. I want to delete the backup and create a new one.
Not that it adds much value, but I have attached a screen shot
Can someone help.

Thank you Steve. I did as specified. I renamed the xml file with a tilde in the name. Now Acronis won't start. It tries but stops with "applying user settings" progress message. displayed. Any thoughts?

The application is looking for the the task you renamed. That task must be removed or copied to another location so that TI will stop trying to locate it.

That was the issue. I moved it to the desktop and now it starts.
Thanks. I will create the new backup and be on my way.
I assume that I leave the Active Protection feature disabled. What does Active Protection do (or what should/can I do to utilize it).

Chuck, you may want to turn AAP back on again as this tries to prevent any of your backup files from being attacked by ransomware etc, unless you have other such protection that you are happy to trust here!

Thanks Steve. I will re-enable it.
Haver a safe day.

I am having a similar problem. I have a backup job that seems to be stuck calculating time remaining. I've tried to select the STOP option, with no luck.
I followed the steps outlined by Steve above. I ran the task zap command, but didn't see any indication that it did anything. I found the offending file in the scripts folder, but get access denied if I try to delete or move the file. I tried running explorer as an administrator, and running cmd.exe as an administrator, but can't seem to delete or move the file.
I'm running ATI 2021 under Win 7.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Walt, if Acronis Active Protection is enabled then one of its core purposes is to prevent any ATI files being deleted etc, so you need to turn AAP off via the Protection settings panel (or turn off Protection for the period you need to delete the script file).

Sorry, I forgot to put that in my initial post. I did turn off ATP, and verified that it's still off. I chose the turn off until next restart. I just double checked, and ATP is still off.
The job I want to kill is still calculating time remaining, which is keeping me from running any other backup jobs.

Walt, if AAP is turned off, then you will probably need to either restart Windows or else to use Windows Task Manager to kill the active Acronis tasks such as TrueImageNotify, TrueImageMonitor, BackupWorker and TrueImage.exe if these are present.
Also, if you have used task zap with the Scheduler Manager tool, then all scheduled tasks will have been removed from the Scheduler and will need to be rescheduled again.
