Moving to a new backup drive

Thread needs solution

I found the answer once, but cannot find it again. My original local backup drive is to small. I want to move to a new, larger drive, and not lose any of the existing backups. How do I do this?

Louis, welcome to these public User Forums.

Which type of backup files do you have here?
Are they .tib or .tibx files?
I am assuming you have ATI2020 given you created this topic in the 2020 forum?

If your backups are .tib files, then you can use the Move option for each task and use this to move all the backup files to your new larger backup drive.
The Move option is found in the task menu options accessed via clicking on the caret at the right side of the task name (V).  You would obviously need to have both the old and new drives connected.

If your backups are .tibx files (created for Disk backups in ATI 2020), then there is no Move option offered for these backups, so you would need to take a different approach.

  1. Open each backup task and make a note of your settings.
  2. Remove the task from the ATI GUI by using the Delete option, but only remove the settings (not everything / not the files).
  3. Copy the .tibx files from the old drive to the new, larger drive.
  4. Disconnect the old drive.
  5. Use the 'Add existing backup' option (found to the right of 'Add backup' via the caret (V) icon.
  6. Select the most recent .tibx file for each task to be added back.  This will create a new task in the GUI based on the name of the selected .tibx file.
  7. Reconfigure the settings for each added task.

Thank you for the quick response. And I am finally looking at the USER guide in detail, but have a quick, (answer probably too obvious) question.

1 Open each backup task and make a note of your settings. .  Where do I find the backup task?

FYI.  Yes, have the 2020 version with .tbix files

You need to select Backup, the top menu item on the left. Then the backup tasks are listed in the middle column (just to the right of the main menu column).
