Non-Stop Back - task was not retrieved

Thread needs solution

Not seen this before. I uninstalled ATI 2020 beta (first saving settings). Just noticed this morning that my non-stop back task was not there. Tried to import it and it gave an error message. Validated the task, and it was then imported again with an error message.

The odd thing is that there were log files created on 3 occasions before I added the task back. Nothing in the log files that helped me work out what went wrong. They just say that it stopped.

I will submit feedback and hopefully they will be able to sort it out.

Ian, thank you for reporting the issue! Your feedback was received and registered with ID TI-174289.

We will see if we can reproduce it on our side and debug it.

Desite importing the backup it still does not appear to be running and I can see no way to restart it.

If I recall correctly I can only have one non-stop backup task, so I have to delete the task and start a new one. I can still access the old backups via Windows Explorer so they are not lost. (Not really a worry as I was running the backup to see if I would get the errors that some other users were getting.)

After more investigation the problem seems to be due to a file called "cdp1.data" had become corrupted. Not sure when the corruption occurred. Also when I attempt to validate the backup by right clicking in file manager it give an error message about corruption (do not recall seeing such detailed message when I did the initial validation).

Next question is how the file became corrupted. Presumably it was OK before I upgraded as the nonstop backup task was running. The file was last modified on 21/8/19, which would be about the time I updated to ATI 2020. This may explain why when I imported saved settings the App crashed a few seconds later.

I got a response from Acronis technical support which included the following:

As per the design behavior of Acronis True Image application, Nonstop backup task cannot be added to the backup list or it will get  saved in the backup setting. It is the limitation of the product.

So we need to create a new backup Nonstop backup every time after reinstall of Acronis True Image application. Also, validating Nonstop backup is not possible as it validate automatically during backup completion.

The first point says that when you backup setting it will not included information about nonstop backup. This is inconsistent with what is said in the ATI 2020 user guide (11.12 Importing and exporting backup settings, p. 178):

The settings of nonstop backup are as follows:

§ list of items for nonstop protection

§ Nonstop Backup data storage location (a list of locations, if there are several)

It is correct that you cannot add such nonstop backup, however I was able to validate it (with error message) thereby including it in the backup listing.

So looks like the setting should have imported but they did not. It is possible that the damaged file prevented this happening, although I suspect that it was damaged after I uninstalled ATI 2020 beta 2, as it was apparently working up to then going by the last modified date and time.

On the matter of validation, section 4.6.5 Validating backups of the user guide makes no reference to nonstop backup not being able to be validated from Windows (the wording is odd but no so as to open the possibility that it is not intended to work).

@Slava, is the information in the product guide correct when it comes to exporting and importing nonstop backup tasks?
