Recovery is not working

Thread needs solution

Hello,

after a successful backup on an external hd, I got the internal hd in my Toshiba laptop exchanged.

Already 3 times I tried the recovery.. it always freezes with the message "Recovery in preperation".
I did let it run even a whole night; nothing works.

What to do, please?

More information will assist the user community in helping you to resolve the problem.

What is the model of your Toshiba laptop? What operating system does it use? For example Windows 10 Pro x64 version 2004.

What are the sizes of the old and the new drives; you say they are HDDs - please confirm that neither is an SSD.

Is the recovery media stored on a USB HDD or on an HDD in a docking station; does it use USB 2 or USB 3? What is the rating of the USB port to which you are attaching the external drive. Does the external drive have its own power supply?

Are you using recovery media or are you doing the backup starting it from the ATI 2020 app (the latter is not likely but it is useful to know)?

Is the recovery media on a USB stick (is it USB 2 or USB 3) or a DVD/CD?

What type of recovery media are you using:

  • recovery media downloaded from you Acronis account - this will be Linux recovery media;
  • recovery media create on the Toshiba before it had the HDD replacement, if so which version of the recovery media did you create - 
    • Simple—This is the easiest option. Acronis True Image will choose the optimal media type for your computer. If you use Windows 7 or a later version, WinRE-based media will be created. 
    • Advanced—This option allows you to choose a media type. This means you can create the bootable media not only for your computer, but for a computer running a different Windows version.
