Recovery from a tibx Backup
Does anyone on this forum know how to recover data from a tibx format backup that has a missing backup (archive) file from the tibx file set?
For four days, I have had a case open with True Image support (Case ID 04374463) and have not been able to get a resolution or workaround from them for my problem. I made the mistake of initially submitting the problem via email so I could include documentation (screenshots, system report, etc.) and the case that was created was given a severity of low and I have not been unable to get the severity changed to high. The initial response I got from support is that the data is not recoverable because of the missing file, but I am continuing to pursue it with them because I think it should be recoverable from a full backup unless the tibx file design is very flawed.
This is my problem -
The tibx file set that I am trying to recover from only contains full version backups that were created locally on an external drive using Backup Scheme Custom and Backup Method Full. The missing backup file from the file set was also created using Backup Scheme Custom and Backup Method Full. The file set has 7 files and the third file in the set is the missing file. The missing backup file was user deleted via Windows Explorer because the True Image backup that created it failed.
The error that I get when trying to recover is "This is not the last volume of the backup archive" and there is no option to ignore this error and proceed with the recovery.
I have tried to get True Image to "Validate" the backup and also tried "Add Backup" of the backup file set and in both cases I get the error "Failed to add the backup to the backup list. The backup may be locked or corrupted. Also make sure the folder contains the last volume of the backup and does not contain a renamed copy of the same backup." In response to this error, I click "Ignore" expecting True Image to at least attempt to validate the file set so I can at least recover the data from one of the full version backups, but it does nothing.
Based on this problem, it appears that the tibx design, as it is currently functioning, is an all or nothing design. In other words, if you lose any backup (archive) file from one of its file sets, you can't recover anything from that file set even from a full version backup.
If anyone has a fix or workaround for this problem, please let me know.

Hello Leland T,
yes, this is the current archive design - I've added your scenario to the change request TI-190052 Independent Full backups.
