Restored from within Windows - unbootable PC

Thread needs solution

PC was running but with severe problems, so I decided to restore previous night's (entire PC) backup. Did so using ATI 2020  from within Windows and all OK until completion, after which the PC just looped around  'Choose Language' and 'Keyboard Layoiut' UEFI screens (accepting input for each) but didn't boot.  When I used a WINPE rescue USB and restored  outside of Windows all was well and the PC was bootable.Documentation suggests a restore from within Windows is possible - any idea why it might not have been in this case?

Sorry but something I have avoided doing for a long time because doing any restore from within Windows will ultimately want to restart to continue the process, which in turn modifies the Windows Boot Configuration Data to point to a temporary Linux based environment.

I will always boot directly from my rescue media rather than risk the complications that come if the changes to the BCD are not reversed.

I only use Windows PE rescue media for greatest compatibility when recovering.

The Linux based media works fine for older Legacy systems but I am reluctant to use it for my more modern UEFI / GPT system with NVMe M.2 SSD and RAID devices.

Thanks Steve, rapid response as always. Lesson learnt for the future but it's always a pity (or should that be PITA!) when software doesn't do what it promises, especially given that it is after all a home product.

Your experience is one of the reasons that any good disk/data manipulation software always states, BACK UP FIRST.  Obviously you have a backup, hopefully you can retrieve and recover it.  If you do face issues we are here to help if we can.
