Safely unplug external drive

Thread solved

I have an Acronis mirror image on an external drive.  I wish to unplug the drive and replug it when I want to create another Acronis backup.

The space behind my computer is cramped.  I am unable to safely dismount an external drive with Windows 10 software as I cannot identify the Acronis drive (I have 5 external drives listed).

Microsoft says to unplug the drive from the back of the computer.

Would the following e an acceptable procedure?

To dismount a drive:

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Unplug the drive from the back of the drive.

To remount a drive:

  1. While the computer is shut down, replug the drive at the back of the drive.
  2. Boot up the drive.

In other words, does it matter if you unplug a drive from the back of the computer or from the drive itself?

It does not matter.
