try to refresh computer

Thread needs solution

A major problem has occurred with my laptop a few days back. Unknowing to me some malicious code entered my computer. Which causes my computer to behave abnormally. I tried to refresh my computer and learned the process from https://errorcode0x.com/refresh-reset-restore-windows-to-factory-settin… but could not apply that. Can anyone tell me how to refresh windows 7?

Jane, welcome to these public User Forums.

These forums are primarily used by people who use the Acronis True Image software to create full disk backups of Windows computer systems such as your Windows 7 laptop, which would then make recovering from any form of malware attack a much simpler process.

If you do not have any backups of your laptop from before the malware attack, then you are probably looking at having to do a full disk format to remove all traces of the malware then to do a clean install of Windows 7.

The normal method of refreshing Windows back to the factory supplied version will depend on the make of laptop and how this was implemented for that make, i.e. Dell, HP, Compaq, IBM, Lenovo, Samsung, Acer ....  all may take different approaches.

I would strongly recommend that you avoid using the infected laptop as much as possible to prevent even more spread of the malware infection.  You should ensure it is disconnected from any network connections using Wi-Fi or network cables, and no insert any USB sticks to it when it has booted into the infected Windows OS.

If you are uncertain about how to recover from this type issue, then you may be best advised to take the laptop to a specialist computer repair shop or service who will have the correct tools to try to salvage your personal data and disinfect the laptop / perform a clean install of Windows.
