Unexplained error: A backup error.

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to backup a laptop with a single SSD drive with about 80GB of data. The backup gets partially done, and stops with this error: The latest backup has been stopped. A backup error.

How can I get more information on what the error is?

Bert, what version of ATI are you using here?  Is it ATI 2020 per this forum or an older version?

Please download the MVP Log Viewer tool (link in my signature below) and use this to review the log file for your backup operation. This should provide more information on why you are seeing any notification messages?

With ATI 2020 and Disk backups, much of detailed log information has been moved to the backup_worker logs which aren't shown by the MVP Log tool (as it pre-dates their use).

C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\backup_worker is where these logs are found.

Thanks -

There appear to be 2 logs for each backup. The first seems to finish without error, but the second seems to try to open the archive file, but can't.

The backup works without issue until the progress bar is about 40% done, and then the error occurs - this is the error reported in the log file:

type=log; level=err; message=ar#1: failed to open archive path="\\?\E:\S9\/Crucial_ CT512M550SSD MU01.tibx" mode=append uuid=00000000000000000000000000000000, err=-5022 (File not found);

The strange thing is (other than the strange "\/" in the path name), is that the file (Crucial_ CT512M550SSD MU01.tibx) has was created by Acronis, and there is 12gb in it when the backup fails.

The behavior suggests data corruption.  Suggest running chkdsk \f on your SSD to check for and correct any file system errors.

Bert, the backup_worker task will always start off by trying to open the target .tibx file in the destination location, and if that file has not yet been created, it will give the error you are seeing then continue.  It has confirmed that the destination path is correct so proceeds with the task.

The \/ notation shown in paths in the log is also normal for this task.

Please zip up a selection of the backup_worker logs where you are seeing problem then upload the zipped file to the forum to allow us to see the full picture here in context.
Note: zip please to preserve the original file names!
