Windows 10 very slow to boot after backup

Thread solved

I backup every Sunday leaving TI to turn off when complete. Next time I start PC the desktop background shows but no icons appear. After a few minutes the taskbar appears and up to 17 minutes later the icons appear and I can use the PC. Any help very much appreciated.

Tony, welcome to these public User Forums.

Having Acronis shutdown the computer after your backup completes should not cause your next boot into Windows to be any slower than if you did a normal full shutdown and restart.

Have you tested how long it takes for a normal restart after doing a full shutdown?

The computer itself will dictate some of the performance here.  I have an old Dell Studio laptop that takes an age to boot to a usable Windows 10 desktop, but it is running an old Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB RAM which is creaking a bit due to age (10+ years I guess?).

My new HP Omen Intel i7 8th Gen laptop with 32GB RAM and NVMe M.2 SSD boots up in less than a minute and makes me wonder why I put up with the Dell for as long as I did!

Note: to do a full shutdown, press & hold a Shift key when clicking on shutdown.

Hi Steve,

It normally takes about a minute to boot. I recently upgraded from TI 2012 to TI 2020 and never had this problem before.

Thanks for your reply.

Tony, the 2012 to 2020 upgrade is a big gap. If you installed ATI 2020 over the prior installation, that could easily introduce some incompatibility with services/drivers. To quote from Acronis KB:
In case you are upgrading from an earlier version of Acronis True Image: If your current version of Acronis True Image is Acronis True Image 2019 or Acronis True Image 2018, the new version will simply update it; there is no need to remove the old version and reinstall the software. If your current version is older, we recommend that you remove the current version before installing Acronis True Image 2020.

Even if you uninstalled ATI 2012 first, there could still be some residue. It might be best to uninstall ATI 2020 and then use the Acronis Cleanup utility to remove all traces of the prior application before reinstalling ATI 2020.

Tony, I just read about Microsoft's Windows 10 update KB4532695 which has caused problems for some, including slow boot issues. Any chance you had it installed the other day? If so, see if you can uninstall that update.

Definitely a possibility. I suspect it is behind problems I am having with one of my PCs - almost BSOD, everything but the blue screen, it just jams and stops working.

Ian

It would be worth uninstalling KB4532695 and see if it fixes the problem.

I have KB4532695 installed with no obvious issues that I am aware of? The link shows it was made available on Jan 28th but wasn't installed on my computer till Feb 1st.

Came across webpage: Windows 10 KB4532695 causes BSOD error for some users that mentions slow boot as one symptom.

Thanks for your replies. Problem seems to have resolved itself finally.
