Access old backup files on Windows from Mac

Thread needs solution

I am trying to retrieve old photos on an external hard drive. I backed up the files up using the Windows version of Acronis 2014.

Now I have a MacBook Pro Mojave 10.14.6.

I cannot launch the Acronis software because it is for Windows.
I have the activation & registration codes, but they are obsolete.

How do I retrieve my photos?

Thank you in advance for your assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely, Lynn

Lynn, welcome to these public User Forums.

Caveat: I am a Windows user with no direct experience of using ATI on any Mac.

If you have Windows installed on your Mac, then you could try installing your ATI 2014 for Windows on that partition, then use it to access your backup files.

The alternative would be to boot a PC using the ATI 2014 (or later version) Acronis Rescue Media to do the photo recovery.

See KB 65462: Acronis True Image 2021: comparison of feature set in Windows and macOS - for details of what can be done in this scenario.

Also KB 65418: Acronis True Image 2021 on Mac: FAQ - and the lower section:

Are the produced backups compatible with Windows version of Acronis True Image?

No, Mac and Windows versions of Acronis True Image produce backups that can be used only by the respective software version.

If you need to access your files from Windows, that were stored in a backup in Acronis Cloud, use the Web Restore page.
