ATI 2021 is a BAD Dream

Thread needs solution

I have just upgraded from ATI 2020 to ATI 2021 and it is like living a bad dream.

PC1: Had to turn off Windows Defender. 2021 is very heavy on resouces. Of course I turned it back on.

PC2: simply a nightmare. Very slow. UI keeps getting back to "calculationg the data size", no disk activity on the target and it goes on and on for hours. This PC has 32GB, 8 cores and SSD. Backup device is a 1000MB/s SSD. AndActonis 2021 is simply a nightmare.

Sorry but you need to raise these issues directly with Acronis Support either by raising support cases with them, or else using the Feedback tool provided in the GUI Help section.

I can only advise that you should turn off all of the new protection features and re-enable Windows Defender & Firewall protection, though it still may some time to quiesce the various new background services & processes!

Next, try to disconnect all additional devices and drives that are not directly associated with the backup operation being performed, this to limit the scope of any 'scanning' being performed by Acronis!

My frustration is that customers do not need to be guinea pigs of an applocation. And new issues such as "lets use Acronis as the antivirus while yours can be disabled together iwth the firewall" should be by user permission and user election and not as a blind installation feature.

New issues like checking vss is the same. Its cool and more reliable - but GIVE AN APPROPRIATE error message about an issue rather than get infinitely stuck withing cycles of trying to backup again and again.

Same applies for cases where target device may not have enough room. This is LEGITIMATE and of "first order and easy to display" - so display ! And dont get stuck.

I have been using Acronis since 2011. And this latest release is FAR from being in line with the standard of previous releases. 

I wanted to share my observation with the forum. As I am not the only one that got stuck in "calculating ...".

I'd rather you fix the product than fix the client's view and correct my computer.

Mickey, you need to express your comments directly to Acronis - I am just another user who happens to have the MVP badge on my account - I don't work for or have any real advantage regarding Acronis decisions etc!  I get the frustration and have also expressed this multiple times to Acronis!
