DELL Latitude E5320 - Want to BACKUP my initial OS but no SSD is seen

Thread needs solution

Hi

I have bought a fresh Dell Latitude E 5320 Laptop. I did run first my install of my WIN 10 OS. Now I would like to make an inital BAckup of the OS. I created a BOOT Stick with ATI 2021 (latest version) on another PC. I could boot with the WIN PE created ATI 2021 Boot Media stick. (NOT with the LINUX ATI 2021 Boot Media) When I want to make a BACKUP I see  only my USB STICK and MY EXTERNAL USB HDD, where I want the Backup be stored to. BUT NO SSD FROM THE DELL LAPTOP ?  I can not select the Dell SSD, because the SSD is not shown. WHY?

Walter, welcome to these public User Forums.

The most likely reason is that your new Dell laptop has a different type of SSD to the PC where you created the WinPE rescue media, therefore that media does not have the required device drivers needed for the new laptop SSD, i.e. for NVMe M.2 drives.

The best solution is to install ATI 2021 on the new laptop then create the rescue media on that laptop.

Walter,

Your laptop uses an Intel Storage Controller and like Steve says it is likely that the boot media you created lacks driver support for it.

You can download the correct driver for your laptop from the link below.  It will be an .exe file.  To capture the driver file needed you will need to extract the files from .exe using an app like 7zip.  Once extracted look for a file named iastorav.inf.  Copy that file to an easy to remember location.

Now rebuild your boot media and when you get to the step to add drivers point the builder to the location where you copied this .inf driver file and the builder tool will add it.  Complete the build process and when finished boot your laptop and you should now be able to see your disk.
