Yet Another Win10 Wake/Sleep Problem with TI2021, Dec 22 Update...

Thread solved

I'm VERY frustrated with TI 2021.  I'm still dancing with Sleep/Wake up issues on my Windows 10 computers.  I've been using TI for over15 years and have never had this much trouble with my tried and true backup programs.

When I upgraded TI2019 to TI2021, the computer wouldn't go to sleep.  Once I disabled the "Prevent computer from going to sleep/hibernate" option in TI, the computer slept soundly.

Unfortunately it now sleeps TOO soundly, and won't wake up for backups.  Yes, in Windows Power Options I have the "Allow Wake Up Timers" option enabled.

Anyone got any other ideas short of reprogramming all my backup up jobs or going in and registry editing?

I am not aware of any specific ongoing sleep or wake issues with the recent builds released for ATI 2021 and have not seen any evidence of this on any of my own PC's where I have regular scheduled tasks that wake up and go to sleep again as expected.

You may want to consider doing a Repair Install of the latest ATI 2021 #35860 build if the issue continues.

I can confirm exactly the same problem. I have built a brandnew desktop 2 weeks ago (Intel z490 Core i9, 32GB DDR4, 1 TB SSD, 4TB backup disks, ...) with Win10 64 bit.
Same Problem: Computer never enters Sleep-Mode. After lot of investigation I found the solution in powercfg /requestsoverride with the result that I disabled those services:

C:\Windows\system32> powercfg /requestsoverride

[SERVICE]

schedul2.exe EXECUTION

Acronis Scheduler2 Service EXECUTION

AcrSch2Svc EXECUTION

Now the computer enters sleep state as defined in the energy settings, BUT THERE IS ANOTHER ISSUE:
After this settings the computer enters sleep mode EVEN IF THE BACKUP or BACKUP VERIFICATION activity is not finished - so the "prevent computer from going into sleep mode when performing a backup" doesn't work any more.

For me, this is still the lesser evil so I stay with these settings until Acronis has fixed the issue.

Roland, welcome to these public User Forums.

Acronis is unlikely to fix this issue unless those users who are affected by it report it to them by opening a support case and submitting diagnostic data in the form of an Acronis System Report etc.

Thank you Steve! I did report it today. Unfortunately I was not able to submit my system report because the attachment is limited to 25 MB and my system report was almost 30MB. I hope I will be able to mail it to them, after I will receive a first response.
Since my Windows 10 is very clean (set up on a new blank SSD) and the computer is also built with new components this would be a good possibility for them to find out what causes the issue.

Roland, that is good that you have reported this issue.  They will provide details for you to FTP the system report zip file and any other diagnostic logs / traces etc when they email you.

FileZilla is my chosen FTP client that I use for this purpose if you don't have one already.

Cross reference to older forum topic: Acronis 2021 prevents computer going to sleep - that was reported as fixed by build #30480 of ATI 2021 where the following was posted:

the issue is fixed in build 30480 https://forum.acronis.com/comment/550605#comment-550605  Please install the recent update.

Build number for Win, Mac: 30480

This hotfix solves the following issues:

TI-208639 [A2] Encrypted cloud archive uses logical file size for quota calculation instead of size on disk
TI-208731 PC does not go to sleep after installation of Acronis True Image 2021

This suggests that the fix in 30480 has been undone for some users in #35860...!

I posted in another thread about ATI 2021 #35860 not allowing my computer to go to sleep. Since supposed fixes on that thread were no help I was told to submit a support ticket. Unfortunately that was no help. I was told to do a clean install of ATI 2021. I have already done that twice and will not do that again since it is a waste of time. I have already submitted 2 system reports so I guess that did not help.

My computers do their backups between 12am and 2am but refuse to go to sleep after that. That is because Schedule2 is preventing sleep. I found that when I get up in the morning if I reboot each computer Scheduler2 is reset allowing the computers to sleep again.

For now it looks like I have two options:
1. Reboot each computer manually every morning
2. Configure the computer backups to shut down the computer after the backup is done

I am going to try options #2. Hopefully after I boot each computer in the morning Schedule2 will be reset allowing the computers to sleep.

Update: Rebooting only helped one computer. The other computer still had Schedule2 preventing sleep. On this computer restarting Schedule2 reset it allows sleep again.

It looks like I am going to have to do this on that computer:
1. Set the backup to automatically shut down the computer when the backup finishes
2. After I reboot the computer in the morning I will have to restart Schedule2.

I found that you don't need an FTP client to copy the system report to the Acronis ftp server. All you need to do is copy and paste the link given by Acronis support into a Windows Explorer window. You can then drag and drop the system report file into that.

Let me give you a short status update of the same issue on my machine:

  • As requested by the first reply of customer support I have removed the <powercfg /requestsoverride> of schedule2
  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled ATI2021
  • As before I have scheduled a daily incremental backup in the night

Result after 2 days without reboot of my machine:

So far the system behaves as expected.

The problem in the past was, that it did work fine for some days but then the schedul2 did not disappear from powercfg /request (you could see it in the command line) . This was the point when the computer did not go to sleep mode. (Of course, that is the function of setting this request, needed as long as the ATI is active. But after completing the backup the request shall disappear again (it did not)).

So - at the moment it is fine but I am curious, if it will stay like this for the next days.

I will report here and to customer service latest in a week (or earlier, if the problem comes up again).

I had tried to reinstall ATI 2021 but that did not fix the sleep problem. I was told by Acronis support to used the Acronis CleanupTool to remove ATI 2021. I then reinstalled ATI 2021. My computer has been going to sleep normally now.

Now I am really confused. My daily backups were working fine with my computer going to sleep after the daily backup. However, both weekly drive backups on 02/08/21 failed with error "The shadow copy provider had an error". Even then the computer went to sleep after the errors.

I then checked and found Active Protection was enabled. I set that to "Protection is stopped permanently", Only after doing that would the weekly backups start working again. Note I tried to start the backups manually but they would not complete without error until I disabled Active Protection.

Here is the crazy part. With all backups working and Active Protection disabled my computer again stopped going to sleep again after the backups.

What is going on with ATI 2021 to make it work this way?

This is the same I have been told by A-Support. So again I removed ATI 2021 - this time by Cleanup Tool and reinstalled again. Everything worked fine for almost a day including a full backup during the night. About 20 hours after reinstallation and "normal behavior" the computer refused to enter sleep mode again - AND - here the problem-maker is back again:

C:\Windows\system32>powercfg /requests
DISPLAY:

SYSTEM:

AWAYMODE:
Keine.

AUSFÜHRUNG:
[SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume11\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\Schedule2\schedul2.exe (AcrSch2Svc)
Acronis Scheduler2 Service

PERFBOOST:

ACTIVELOCKSCREEN:

(Translation: AUSFÜHRUNG = EXECUTION, Keine = none)

Latest Update from my side:

I've had a periode of about 6 weeks with regular mail communication with the support team. During that time I sent 2 full system reports to Acronis. Last monday (5 days ago) I installed the latest Build 39184. Since that moment all problems are gone. I watched the system now for a week and yesterday I told Acronis support that they can close the case. If anything changes I will report here but I am confident, that the issue is solved. I have no feedback, if my system reports have contributed to the solution but anyway - I am happy, that everything is fine now.
