2 QUESTIONS related to Online Backup

Thread needs solution

Newbie here with 2 Questions:

1) I am currently running on-line backup. I do not plan on suspending this operation, but what happens
if I do? Will the data transfer begin at the spot I suspended process?

2) Because online backup takes a long time what happens when my daily incremental backup begins? Will this backup be postponed? Are two backups able to run at the same time without screwing up data?

thanks in advance your for your helpfulness and reply

1) If you suspend the backup or interrupt it, it will pick up where you left it,
2) Online backups works a bit differently. Everytime it runs, it looks at the files that need backup and back them up: whether because a file has not been backed up yet (new file, or incomplete "first" backup), or because an already backed up file has been changed.

The reason is that online backup stores the versions of files in a big database, so there is nothing like a chain of TIB files online.

thanks for reply Pat. Happy Easter!

I discovered daily incremental backup is postponed when another backup procedure is running. Makes sense...too much for computer to do at once.

it's good to know I am able to suspend online backup if necessary without having to start from beginning again.

My first online backup attempt failed and I have a few more questions [file of "event log" for this backup is attached if it's any help.
I don't understand it. Here are my questions:

1) FAILED TO PEAK DATA FROM SSL CONNECTION == what does this mean? how di I fix this?

2) why would a "request timeout" expire? What is a request timeout? I set backup and forgot about it.

3) How do you configure e-mail notification. I followed instructions and e-mail failed. I'm not certain what to put in
the box just before my e-mail account password: my e-mail address? my name? some number I'm not aware of?
instructions from internet provider are not helpful with this.

4) reports lists many lines of "such item already included." Are these duplicate files? How did this happen?

Here are my online backup settings:

10 attempts at 60 second intervals
performance = normal
e-mail notification
no exclusions
settings saved as default

I used the default choices Acronis picked for backup files--this is what they are:

Source = computer
2 desktop folders were check automatically (Miscellaneous and StrikingEagle). there are a number of files in each folder.

Drives = (C) Windows_7_C
(D) Recovery_D
(E) HP_tools_E

no schedule is set yet becaue I'm not sure what I'm doing.

question 5: What is being duplicated? Music files? (windows media player, iTunes, iPod backup, My Music files)

I paid for another month subscription so I am able to complete this backup. Any help with this is appreciated
if you are able to do so. Thanks, Lyn

Not sure. Probably a server side error. SHould not be persistent.

Again, linked to communication with the servers.

3) How do you configure e-mail notification. I followed instructions and e-mail failed. I'm not certain what to put in

You have to enter your email address, then the password. From your ISP, you should get the address of the POP and SMTP servers and their security settings (eg SSL)

4) reports lists many lines of "such item already included." Are these duplicate files? How did this happen?

Most likely you have selected the librairies and the disks. Not a problem.

Remember that an online backup is backing up files only. This won't help you much if your disk dies. You should consider doing also a local disk and partition backup of the entire disk, and then keep the online backup to backup files that you cannot replace/purchase/recreate.

I tried the trial online BU and not only did it take 4 days to back up about 28Gb. It says it suceeded with "with errors". Well after spending 4 days plus I decided to go to SugarSynk which I am bery happy with and use ATIH just for straight BU's.

The trouble is this. After unlinking the onsite account, I then went to the Sync tab in ATIH and clicked the gear and pressed delete. Nothing happened. I continue to get those annoying little notifications (is there some way to turn them off?) that says I have a sync account that needs to be synced. The Sync tab still showes the sync and the gear has the delete X but it does not do anything.
Any Help? I am running win XP SP3 on ATA disks.
