2009 to 2012: do I need to update the old version before upgrading?

Thread needs solution

I am running Acronic True Image Home 2009 and want to upgrade to the 2012 version. Do I need to download any updates for the 2009 program first, or can I go straight ahead with the upgrade?

You can go straight ahead and upgrade over the top.

1. Make sure you have a current 2009 full image of your disk before upgrading.

2. Make sure you rescue CD for 2009 works.

3. I prefer to uninstall, reboot and then install any new version.

4. If you have a PlusPack for 2009, that will need to be uninstalled before installing 2012.

Disable the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager, and your security software before you do the upgrade.

You can probably install over the existing version (certainly without any need to update the existing version) and ATI2012 will take care of removing the older version before it actuall installs. However, I recommend you do the following:

disable any non-microsoft servives and all startup program (use msconfg.exe to do this).
reboot; uninstall ati2009, install ati2012 then restore all the services and startup programs (using msconfig).

This will ensure against program/driver-install conflicts and gives you the best chance for trouble-free operation of ati2012.

Oh, I should have iterated what pat said -- before you do anything, make a backup of your hdisk and, if you haven't already, make an ati bootcd so that you can restore just incase anything goes wonky.
