2012 vs 2011 Performance?

I have no scientific evedence for this but it seems to me that 2012 has a significant impact on the system compared to 2011. Durning my unsuccessful attempts to compete a file backup my system froze for several seconds many times. It seemed to get worse as time progressed until it was almost unusable. I am running with an intel I7 920 overclocked, performance memory, etc.--this isn't a low-end machine.

Same here.
I upgraded from ATIH2011 to ATIH2012 and it found my old, existing backup and started at the correct time of day as per normal.
When running the backup, the computer appears to hang but I think the backup is still going in the background.
Thinking there was an issue with my backup settings, I edited the backup time and found that I can no longer backup to my network attached external drive. I didn't even change the destination...
After a couple of days of trying, I have now uninstalled the 2012 software and gone back to 2011.
It took about 20 tries to 'find' the external drive but that was normal behaviour for ATIH2011.
